A lot of folks shopping for their first telescope tell us that they have always had a fascination with the stars. They've wanted to get a telescope for a long time, they say. We understand very well the lure of the night sky. It has intrigued mankind for millennia with its beauty and mysteriousness. And still does. So it's only natural to want to know more about it, to get a closer look.
If you share this fascination, and are ready finally to spring for that telescope you've always wanted, then we suggest you consider the affordable but very capable Orion SpaceProbe 130mm EQ Reflector Telescope. It's not one of those department store type deals notorious for toy-like quality and shoddy performance; it's a bona-fide 5" aperture reflecting telescope which can provide you and your friends and family with bright, pleasing views of many of the wonders of the cosmos. You'll be amazed at the great views of the cratered Moon, stunning planets like Jupiter and Saturn, distant sparkling star clusters, and even far-off nebulas and bright galaxies on especially dark evenings.
Sporting a classic long-tube Newtonian reflector design, the Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector Telescope provides great all-around viewing performance. One minute you can be studying lunar crater formations at high power; the next, the ethereal glow of a nebular star factory. A few minutes later, the SpaceProbe 130 EQ can wow you with the ringed visage of Saturn. All served in crisp detail by way of the SpaceProbe 130 reflector telescope's light-gathering 130mm (5.1") primary mirror with a versatile 900mm focal length (f/6.9). The reflector telescope's primary mirror lies at the base of the rolled-steel optical tube, which is outfitted with a smooth-adjusting rack-and-pinion focuser.
Since it provides moderate magnification, the 25mm eyepiece is a great way to begin exploring interesting objects in the sparkling night sky. The 1.25" Orion 25mm Explorer II eyepiece yields a 36-power view when used with the SpaceProbe 130 reflector telescope, which is ideal for scanning the night sky. You'll be amazed at the crisp views of sights like the cratered surface of the Moon and much more!
When you want to study objects with more magnification, use the included 10mm Explorer II eyepiece. The fully coated 10mm Explorer II eyepiece provides a powerful, 90x view when inserted into the SpaceProbe 130 reflector telescope, so you can inspect objects more closely. We recommend starting out with the lower-power 25mm eyepiece, then switching to the 10mm Explorer II to increase magnification.
The SpaceProbe 130 EQ comes with a 6x30 achromatic finder scope to help home in on celestial targets. Once a simple alignment procedure is carried out, the 6x30 finder scope makes it easy to aim the SpaceProbe reflector accurately at celestial targets like the Moon, bright planets, galaxies and star clusters. Once aligned with the telescope, just peer through the finder scope and move the telescope until the cross hairs are centered on the object you want to see.
The Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector Telescope comes with our sturdy EQ-2 equatorial mount. Slow-motion controls on the EQ-2 mount allow fine manual motion of the telescope so you can keep a target object in the eyepiece field-of-view over an extended period of time. With a minimal amount of practice, you'll be following celestial objects as they appear to migrate across the night sky like a seasoned amateur astronomer.
The Orion SpaceProbe 130 EQ Reflector Telescope weighs just 26.5 lbs. assembled, so transport to the backyard is easily manageable. For even better results, we recommend taking the SpaceProbe to a dark-sky location with minimal streetlights around so your views will enjoy optimal contrast. Thanks to its convenient portability - the optical tube measures 32.5" in length, and the tripod is collapsible - it's easy to pack up the SpaceProbe 130 in the car for excursions to places where starry skies sparkle.
You can buy that telescope you've always wanted today, without going overboard on price. Get the Orion SpaceProbe 130mm EQ Reflector Telescope and discover the joys of stargazing.

Beginner Level - Suited for a wide range of uses, these products are simple to operate and set up. Some initial assembly may be required depending on the type of product. Optical instruments with this rating will have very good optical and mechanical quality. Great for families, young people, and folks who don't want to mess with equipment and complexity. Beginning level telescopes will show you countless lunar craters, Saturn's rings and a myriad of star clusters and nebulae! Referring to the manual is recommended.
Intermediate Level - These products offer higher performance and more advanced features than Level 1: Beginner models. They typically take a bit longer to learn and need some set-up or adjustments. But anyone with the slightest technical bent will have no problem getting familiar with these models. Referring to the manual is recommended.
Advanced Level - These products provide the best performance but may require more skill to master and appreciate. Optical instruments with this rating have exceptionally fine optics and mechanics. Some are easy to use but might be on the large or heavy side. Some are intended for specialized uses. These products will appeal to the more technically inclined. Referring to the manual is highly recommended.
For telescopes, the optical diameter (also known as aperture) is the size of a telescope's main light-collecting lens or primary mirror, measured in millimeters or inches. Telescopes with larger optical diameters collect more light, which leads to an increase in brightness and image resolution compared to smaller instruments.
For binoculars, the optical diameter (also known as objective lens diameter) is the size of each of the front-facing objective lenses of a binocular measured in millimeters. Binoculars with larger objective lenses collect more light, which increases image resolution and brightness. Binoculars with larger objective lenses are recommended for low light situations, and binoculars with at least 50mm or larger objective lenses are recommended for pleasing astronomical observations at night.
