UHD stands for Ultra-High Definition, and with the 5-element lens configuration you get pinpoint image sharpness from the center to the edge of the field in the 10mm Meade Series 5000 UHD Telescope Eyepiece. This high-quality eyepiece features a 4 group/5 element system with fully multi-coated premium-grade optical glass, combined with blackened lens edges for the best possible image correction in color, contrast, and brightness. The blackened lens edges help prevent errant light from bouncing around inside the eyepiece, reducing reflections and glare while also boosting contrast. The 60° field of view provides a much wider field of view than a standard Plössl, providing a more immersive feel when viewing through the eyepiece.
The large number of elements present in this UHD eyepiece help to provide extremely good correction throughout the field of view. Both field curvature and distortion are kept to a minimum, providing pin-point stars across the field, and the design provides for a 40% improvement in corrections for chromatic aberration and edge distortions over a traditional Plössl design. The wide 60° apparent field helps frame larger objects through the telescope, and also keeps small objects at high power (such as planets) in the field longer if you are using a manual telescope that does not automatically track with the object. If your telescope focal length is fairly long, it can be difficult to frame large deep-sky objects into a single field without having to pan around to see the entirety of the object. With a 60° field of view, many dusty nebulae or spiral galaxies will fit into the eyepiece, giving you a more immersive and enjoyable experience. As a benchmark, in a 1000mm focal length telescope, the magnification will be 100x, and the field of view is 0.6°. And in a shorter telescope such as an 80mm f/6 refractor (480mm focal length), the magnification is 48x with a wide 1.25° field of view. 10mm is an excellent medium-high magnification focal length eyepiece to have in your collection. Ideal for lunar and planetary detail in most all telescopes, and excellent for high magnification deep-sky views, such as the cores of globular clusters, the Trapezium inside the Orion Nebula, and many other compact yet bright deep-sky objects.
The 10mm Series 5000 UHD eyepiece is also parfocal with the other eyepieces in the UHD line, meaning there will be little to no focus change when switching between eyepieces. It features 16mm eye relief, excellent if you wish to leave your glasses on when viewing. Also included are lens caps and a rubber eyeguard that can fold down when using glasses for a scratch free experience that also allows you to see the entire field of view when wearing glasses. The 10mm UHD is threaded for 1.25" filters and weighs 7.4 oz (210g), with dimensions of 41mm x 58mm.

Beginner Level - Suited for a wide range of uses, these products are simple to operate and set up. Some initial assembly may be required depending on the type of product. Optical instruments with this rating will have very good optical and mechanical quality. Great for families, young people, and folks who don't want to mess with equipment and complexity. Beginning level telescopes will show you countless lunar craters, Saturn's rings and a myriad of star clusters and nebulae! Referring to the manual is recommended.
Intermediate Level - These products offer higher performance and more advanced features than Level 1: Beginner models. They typically take a bit longer to learn and need some set-up or adjustments. But anyone with the slightest technical bent will have no problem getting familiar with these models. Referring to the manual is recommended.
Advanced Level - These products provide the best performance but may require more skill to master and appreciate. Optical instruments with this rating have exceptionally fine optics and mechanics. Some are easy to use but might be on the large or heavy side. Some are intended for specialized uses. These products will appeal to the more technically inclined. Referring to the manual is highly recommended.
The edge-to-edge angular diameter of the image displayed in a binocular as seen by the eyes of the observer. It is an inherent specification for a given binocular design. The "angular diameter" of an object is defined as the angle an object makes (subtends) as seen by an observer.
Binocular lenses and prisms are often coated with anti-reflective material to minimize light loss as light travels through the multiple optical surfaces of a typical binocular. Coatings help maximize the amount of light transmitted through each glass surface of a binocular, so as much light as possible reaches the observer's eyes to provide a bright and sharp image.
Good lenses are at least "fully coated," with a single layer of magnesium fluoride coating applied to each air-to-glass lens surface. Multiple layers of coatings are even more effective; the term "multi-coated" means one or more air-to-glass lens surface has multiple coatings. "Fully multi-coated" optics are even better, meaning all lens surfaces have multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings applied for maximum light transmission and optimal image quality.
