Let's put a few things in perspective.First and foremost I think it's unfair that this tripod gets so many bad reviews because some people find it uncomfortable to use with binoculars. Yes, Celestron says it works with the Skymaster line and they probably shouldn't. However, common sense will tell you that, if you need a tripod for your binoculars you need something you can raise way above your height, in which case you might be better off with a traditional photo tripod. Again, plain common sense, a little research and an IQ higher than 50 will tell you that this isn't the tripod for any kind of binoculars. This is a great mount. If you are a beginner and don't want to mess with an equatorial mount then this is for you. The movement is fairly smooth and the whole thing is very stable. Further, this tripod is very well made. I thought I was going to find a bunch of plastic but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. Very well constructed!I have a few telescopes with equatorial mounts but I don't always use them for a variety of reasons (gets dark late, work in the morning, etc.) Don't get me wrong, I love my big scopes but I use my grab n' go a lot more often (which is a short tube 102mm refractor). I wanted a simpler tripod that I could take along at a momments notice for brief observations and this is it. I don't give this product 5 stars because of the altitude adjustment. You need a wrench to adjust the altitude axis tension and that gets old. C'mon Celestron, would it kill you to include a tension knob???If you want a mount for your grab n' go scope then this is for you. If you expect an [$]mount to perform like a premium mount and then get disappointed then you need an IQ test.

I bought this to use with binoculars that are 25 X 100s, they weigh about 10 lbs. They have a mounting post built into them, and they match up with the mounting bolt nicely, they lock down securely, and with the slot for the mounting bolt to move in, they will adjust forward and aft. The tripod is more than capable of holding the weight and the binoculars are steady even in a light breeze. I like the worm screw adjustments for left & right and up & down; they help tracking objects such as planets and stars.
The disadvantage is the height of the tripod at full extension of the legs. When using the binoculars at an elevation of 45 degrees or more it puts the eye pieces at such a low angle that is is hard to look through them.
Overall it is well made, and for the right optical equipment would work great.

Comments about Celestron Alt-Azimuth Heavy Duty Tripod for Binoculars and Spotting Scopes:

It's great for the large construction site. My laser distance measuring equipment mounts perfectly. The gear adjustments makes pinpointing that dot on the target a breeze. No more shakey hands when taking measure in excess of 200m.

          Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was on time and reasonable for being an international order.

Comments about Celestron Alt-Azimuth Heavy Duty Tripod for Binoculars and Spotting Scopes:

I use the tripod as a mount my 10X50 binoculars and I am very pleased with it. The mounting platform is substantially constructed with heavy-duty metal castings and quality hardware. The legs are rigid, providing a stable platform throughout the entire extension range. I do wish it came in a taller version.

With my binoculars, I found that I did not need the fine adjustment feature and the adjustment knobs seemed to be in the way when I was viewing. For me I would have liked the cables to be a little shorter or a little more flexible. I ended up removing them. I could have used a short handle attached to the platform to move it in both az and alt.

Would I buy another one? Yes, I would.
