Our first telescope, purchased for my daughter's eleventh birthday. Went with Refracting for its durablity, ease of use. Product is an excellent value, but I did have some initial issues, starting with the subpar assembly instructions in the manual. The photos were extremely blurry, making it impossible for a novice to assemble without logging onto the website and downloading the manual online, where the pictures are clear and crisp, and can be magnified on the computer screen. Also, the telescope stand's assembly instructions are not available anywhere, neither online nor in the paper manual, but when I pulled all of the pieces out of the shipping box I was able to figure out how to put it together on my own with the help of the magnified online photo. The real issue I had with the telescope is that the two eyepieces they include with the scope are not high quality Zhumell eyepieces, but rather are cheap Kellner eyepieces. You can look up both brands of eyepieces online and see the difference in quality and price. Also, these Kellner eyepieces will not fit any Zhumell eye filters you might later purchase, (such as a moon filter), nor the Celestron moon filter actually listed on the very page as this telescope as a recommended accessory. This was most confusing, as a novice like me would not expect a Zhumell telescope to come with Kellner eyepieces which do not fit Zhumell nor Celestron filters, in spite of the fact all of the above are labeled 1.25 inches. Customers should be aware that the Kellner eyepieces are what is provided with this purchase.[...] I understand now why the cheaper eyepieces are included with this scope -- to keep its price down. For what it's worth, when I emailed customer service I got outstanding service;[...].Still, at the end of the day, Zhumell took care of me and I will remain a loyal customer to their brand. This is an outstanding product and the company truly does care about their customers.

I purchased this telescope combo mainly just for the EQ 1 mount & the RA drive but found after a star test that the scope was perfectly collimated & gives great views to my surprise. I did however use my hi quality diagonal & plossel eyepieces and that made a World of difference. The diagonal & eyepieces that come with it do work & are ok for viewing the moon but not much else.
The RA drive works great! After a careful polar alignment of the EQ mount I turned the scope to Jupiter & re-adjusted the clock speed of the drive at about 1/2 speed, it would maintain Jupiter in the eyepiece (a 15mm ultra wide) for a solid 10min. So I got exactly what id hoped for, a good drive for extended viewing. The EQ had some play in it & I could tell the usual glue like grease was used on it so I totally disassembled the mount, cleaned it & used lithium BB grease on everything, then re-assembled it. Now the mount works very smoothly & has almost no play. I have no complaints about vibrations when focusing or touching it as all EQ 1 types are made lightweight & that is to be expected. An EQ mount can be VERY hard for a beginner to figure out how to use but,.... it "is" a good deal for the price. The mount isn't for young kids, one reason is that while the RA drive is engaged it has no clutch so one canno't touch the RA knob to do adjustments or something will break, the scopes mount instead must be manually moved then locked down with the RA exactly where you want it to be, then all is well. a lot for a young kid to remember or figure out without breaking something. For adults should be no problem tho.

Comments about Zhumell Aurora 70 with Motor Drive Telescope:

I bought an Aurora many months and was pleased and somewhat surprised to find it really had everything you need to get started in the package.Of course a good star atlas or guidebook is something you will need to buy sooner or later.

The scope went together well, but the manual's picture are terrible and little help. This was the first scope I used with a RA motor and it was neat to see Jupiter stay in view without me needing to keep cranking a knob.I was happy with the views from such a modest aperture scope.

Comments about Zhumell Aurora 70 with Motor Drive Telescope:

I purchased this prior to a move next Summer to a location with fairly low light pollution. I purchased this to see how well a basic telescope would work in similar light. Since I will be purchasing a 6 or 8" Schmidt Cassegrain, or a 12" Dobsonian if I decide not to do astrophotography, I want to be sure it's worth the costs. I thought this would give me a taste of what might come, and it may. However, assembling it last evening althoough simple, had its hurdles. The biggest was that the motor drive's mounting bolts were too small, or stripped and the wing nuts that hold the bracket to the motor will not hold it. I ultimately used a strong bonding cement to mount it. Hopefully, it will hold up for some light use. The bolts that hold the tripod to its mount were missing three washers, so I had to use silver washers I had it a tool kit.The construction is not impressive. That said, we've had heavy clouds, so I haven't been able to look at anything. Because of the poor reviews of the oculars, I purchased a high-quality set of Plossl lenses, and filters. I will try the oculars that came with the scope, but the Barlow lens and angle mount, as well as the spotting scope seem to be mostly plastic, and not of any great quality.I'm hoping that the lens-quality lives up to some of the other reviews. For [$] I didn't expect a serious instrument, but I was hoping for better than Big Box.Right now, I'm fairly pessimistic about the scope, but once I focus on the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and try some hour-long exposures of deep-space fields I'm hoping my concerns over cheap materials will be overcome by the joys of observation. Also, apparently they have upgraded the manual from some reviews and the YouTube demo is helpful, but doesn't mention several steps, including assembling the tripod from scratch. For me, this is something to toy with for bigger plans that I can donate to a school or adventurous child in a couple of months. I can't say this is serious adult equipment.

              Customer Q & A

Q1: Although it doesn't say so, does this telescope come with a carrying case and any computer software detailing the night sky?

A: No. This telescope does not come with software or a carrying case.

Q2: Which telescope would I be able to see the planets with?

A: The Zhumell Aurora 70 with Motor Drive Telescope has the capability to view celestial bodies such as Saturn, Jupiter and the Moon. It is also able to be used to view terrestrial objects.

Q3: Is there any good case for this telescope that you can recommend?

A: Although there are no cases made specifically for this telescope, the  Zhumell Medium Telescope Case (ZHUL043) would work quite well.

Q4: I am trying again I am new as a telescope owner. I have a Zhumell Aurora 70 and would like to know what eye pieces are best for land use if any.

A: Low magnification 1.25" eyepieces would be best for land viewing with the Zhumell Aurora. We recommend a 32mm or a 24mm.

Q5: Can this scope be fitted with a camera?

A: You can use this with a digital camera provided you use a Universal Camera Mount (Item: ZHUI012).
