Comments about Meade LXD75 AR6-AT Achromatic Refractor Telescope with AutoStar:
It's a large scope and I wouldn't want a larger scope on this mount. An extension would be nice for viewing at azimuth. The scope performs as expected. 6" goes so much deeper than my 4" refractors. Nice scope and mount for the price. This is the sweet spot for me on size and aperture. Larger scopes would need much more expensive mounts. Not good for AP. But the mount with a smaller 4" APO is usable for AP. I still can't decide which I like better, the LXD75 mount or my CG5gt.If you have this scope or any LXD75 mount, get Patrick Moore's book from[...] on the LXD 55 and LXD 75 telescopes. It covers everything the manual does, plus a lot more. And yes, you can auto guide with an LXD 75 mount.Back to the scope. It is a very nice 6" with a collimatable cell. The focuser is the only weak spot. It is a rack and pinion. The finder is a straight though, but I replaced it with an RACI. F ratio is long enough that CA only shows on the brighter targets at higher magnifications, then a -V or Baader Semi APO filter works fine. The views are somewhere between a 6" Newt and an 8" Newt. The OTA will fit in a golf club travel bag. This is much cheaper than a case for this large of a scope. It is a darn good 6" achro, hard to say much more. Mounted on a Go-To Gem that works. At least for visual with this scope. The scope's F ratio is slow enough for Abbe Orthos to shine, and yet fast enough for some nice views with a 31mm Nagler too. If I could only have one refractor, and that refractor had to be a sub $2000 kit, this would be my choice.
