Super beginner's refractor!

Meade's LXD75 AR6-AT Refractor telescope with Autostar is a precision instrument that'll give great service over a long time. It's the perfect instrument for the beginning astronomer, and it'll serve an intermediate-level observer well, too.

At its heart are premium-grade Meade optics, including a 6-inch, BAK-7 objective lens that's multi-coated to maximize light transmission. A German equatorial mount with heavy-duty shaft and castings, as well precision worm gears on both axes, ensures precision tracking and slewing - essential for astrophotography.

High Performace Features

  • High-Precision Pointing (HPP) For ultra-precise pointing, the HPP function puts objects in the center of the field of view, allowing quick, easy location of deep-sky objects at the farthest limits of the telescope's capability.
  • Periodic error correction corrects periodic errors on the RA axis over the course of one or more training periods, minimizing guiding corrections during long-exposure photography.
  • Nine-speed drive controls - From a rapid slew rate of 4.5°/sec. to 1X sidereal, tracking and slewing are controlled from the AutoStar controller.
  • Three-star alignment ensures precise alignment and eliminates the need for a complicated optical/mechanical alignment process.
  • Variable-height field tripod with spreader bar brace provides stability and vibration-damping required for visual observation and astrophotography;
  • Illuminated polar alignment viewfinder offers quick, precise polar alignment,
  • 8x50 Finderscope for locating and centering objects
  • Powered with eight D-size batteries or with optional car cigarette lighter or AC wall adapter.

AutoStar Controller

The AutoStar controller helps you quickly find and GoTo more than 30,000 objects in the night sky. View planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and comets - all at the push of a button. AutoStar is pre-programmed with several guided tours, including the popular Tonight's Best. To take it, just input date, time and location. Then let AutoStar take you on a guided tour of the best objects that particular night. The AutoStar controller can be updated, too. Log on to to download software upgrades, guided tours, and timely objects like comets - free. Keep your AutoStar up-to-date and your telescope will grow with you for years to come.

    Comments about Meade LXD75 AR6-AT Achromatic Refractor Telescope with AutoStar:

    It's a large scope and I wouldn't want a larger scope on this mount. An extension would be nice for viewing at azimuth. The scope performs as expected. 6" goes so much deeper than my 4" refractors. Nice scope and mount for the price. This is the sweet spot for me on size and aperture. Larger scopes would need much more expensive mounts.Not good for AP. But the mount with a smaller 4" APO is usable for AP. I still can't decide which I like better, the LXD75 mount or my CG5gt.If you have this scope or any LXD75 mount, get Patrick Moore's book from[...] on the LXD 55 and LXD 75 telescopes. It covers everything the manual does, plus a lot more. And yes, you can auto guide with an LXD 75 mount.Back to the scope. It is a very nice 6" with a collimatable cell. The focuser is the only weak spot. It is a rack and pinion. The finder is a straight though, but I replaced it with an RACI. F ratio is long enough that CA only shows on the brighter targets at higher magnifications, then a -V or Baader Semi APO filter works fine. The views are somewhere between a 6" Newt and an 8" Newt. The OTA will fit in a golf club travel bag. This is much cheaper than a case for this large of a scope. It is a darn good 6" achro, hard to say much more. Mounted on a Go-To Gem that works. At least for visual with this scope. The scope's F ratio is slow enough for Abbe Orthos to shine, and yet fast enough for some nice views with a 31mm Nagler too. If I could only have one refractor, and that refractor had to be a sub $2000 kit, this would be my choice.
