Telescope, Tripod, "The Sky" planetarium software
Designed for the first-time buyer - offering exceptional value, the AstroMaster series features a compact and portable design with ample optical performance to excite any newcomer to the world of amateur astronomy.
Which AstroMaster Telescope model best fits your needs?
If you're looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster Series is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky. The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep-space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.
If your interest is strictly watching whales, spotting birds, viewing nature, or checking out your favorite star or planet the altazimuth-mounted models are ideal. Alt-Az models have a convenient pan handle with built-in clutch for easy targeting and smooth motion. Models featuring the German Equatorial mount are a good choice for viewing stars, nebulae, star clusters, and planets. Built-in setting circle aids in locating these objects.
When used for astronomical viewing, AstroMasters yield breathtaking views of the Moon, Saturn with its ring structure, Jupiter and its belts and moons, nebulae, and star clusters.
Every instrument features all-glass optical elements as well as smooth-operating steel tripod mountings featuring manual motion controls. All models feature coated optics for enhanced image brightness and clarity.

After much research, online, I decided to go with this telescope. It has enough appature to do the job. Works well on land, as well as the sky. Nothing is upsidedown. The starfinder takes some getting use to. It will get you close to what you want to see, but not "dead on" it. I have noticed that the 90mm lens is attached to the dewshield. And, that it wobbels. The whole shield with the lens will move alittle bit. If I were to remove the dewshield, the lens would just fall off. There is nothing else holding it in place. There are also, metal shaving behind the lens, where the tube was cut to length, but the shavings were not cleaned off before the lens was put on. I am going to contact Celestron about this. However, none of these issues have affected the views. The moon is really nice with either eyepiece. Found Jupiter, first night out. Did not see any cloudbands, but was able to see the planet and its moons. I think with a eyepiece that pushes this telescope to its potential, at 200x, I might see Jupiter's cloudbands? It's a nice scope, despite the concern I have with the dewshield. I would buy it again. One thing you might want to consider, is that this is the same size mount that is on the Astromaster 70AZ. Makes you wonder if it would be more stable than the 90AZ, because its shorter and lighter?

I bought it as my first scope and I am loving it. The starfinder piece did not work but celestron was very agreeable and has shipped me out a new one. The mount, however, is a bit unstable and hard to get to stay in exactly one place (for instance, on the object you're trying to see!) and the scope itself attaches to the mount by a screw pressing against it which, when tightened, tilts the scope a bit. But if youre just looking for a way to see the moon and some other cool stuff, this scope has proven useful in spite of its negative attributes

Comments about Celestron AstroMaster 90 AZ Refractor Telescope:
The scope itself is outstanding for the price. I don't think you will find a better deal for the beginner or entry level scope. My only complaint is the mount is not sturdy enough for the size of the scope. When you try to fix on one point, the mount will not stay fixed due to the weight and size of the scope. I believe this mount would be ideal for a smaller scope, but not the AstroMaster 90.

Comments about Celestron AstroMaster 90 AZ Refractor Telescope:
It was super easy to put together. Right away my two boys and I took it outside to see the moon and the hillside during the day. The moon was much more exciting.
Later that night we looked at the moon again, which they thought we VERY bright compared to during the day. We also saw Jupiter, which was not full, Sirus (I think) which was electric blue and magenta- So Cool!! Mars which was pretty small and then I put it on Saturn and they both looked at me bug-eyed after they saw it with the rings around it. They said "WOW! That is so cool!"
This product was really easy to put together and self explanitory to use. We'll be using it to keep track of what's going on in the night skies, as we have lots more to see. We haven't checked out the CD that came with it yet though.

Comments about Celestron AstroMaster 90 AZ Refractor Telescope:
I purchased this telescope less than 1 week ago for my 11-y-old son. He simply loves it.So far it is perfroming quite well. Unfortunately. as a result of overcast night skies and light pollution, we were not able to view the moon and plantets as I had planned with my son. However, terrestial viewing is excellent.
