How ever if you are looking to do some astrophotography then this is not for you do to the fact that its not a true newtonian. Its a short or bird jones newtonian and will not take good astro pics. jump up to the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT and its not to much more then the lcm 114 its the way to go for the aspiring astrophotographer. This was my first telescope. Found it easy enough to setup, but took a while (1 hr) to align for the tracker to work. The finder scope is not very easy to use, which caused most of the problems. The controller and keypad also requires a bit of practice. For instance it's easy to hit a wrong key and mess up 15 minutes of alignment work.
Once setup though, it was easy to find objects such as Saturn. The setup is not very rigid, so every time you focus or even touch anything, the whole thing shakes. Definitely not for astrophotography, but okay as a beginner's telescope.
Image quality seemed okay, but I don't have much experience with other scopes as comparison.
