When I bought my scope I had difficulty with alignment. I would do the autoalign but it wouldn't go to the second star. I took it in and had the folks look at it and we found that the control box was malfunctioning. Replaced the box and everything works as advertised.

I got this product believing the images it would provide were like those displayed on the meade page from the "so called" casual users taking astrophotography with the product.[...]once I oppened the package I saw that the supposed to be blue tube is in fact violet, with total disregard of that I continued excited installing my telescope, I pulled out the tripod and on one of the sides, where the meade trademark displays I noticed that the sort of label was about to fall as half of it was no longer sticked to the metal but rather hanging, and that the part of the label still attached looked as if it had been hit with a hammer to put it on its place.Not very happy with it I continued considering these just minor details, anyway as I tried to align the smartfinder (not just once but several times using different reference objects either during daylight or at night) I realised that horizontally it aligns perfectly using the knob but vertically it has a gap of aprox 2.5inches, no matter how strong I turn the knob the red dot will not go higher ( I do not want to press the knob even harder as I might just brake it) as you may imagine 2.5 inches on a distant terrestrial object is a lot, imagine that gap on a celestial object it is huge, anyway as I tried to disregard that fact I started with the autostart, which is very easy and comfortable to use except for the fact the it always points at the opposite direction. I entered my zip code as requested, put no on the daylight savings put the scooe in the home position alighned the "hardly" brightest stars (they look just the same with the naked eye as with the scope) "aligment succesful" displayed then I took the guided tour and selected "go to" the moon, the telescope started moving to then stop right on the oposite direction ot the huge brilliant moon standing right behind it; I thought to myself I must have done something wrong, I read through the manual finding nothing on the trouble shooting and reset the telescope to its factory conditions, did the whole process again, this time selecting my city instead of the zip code, again the same problem. I did it yet again putting the scope in the home position, this time turning the horizontal axis to the opposite direction, (not counterclockwise) and still the moon will always appear on a totally different place, sometimes the telescope poits right at a terrestrial object when trying to show me the moon. Need less to say I want my money back, I know my rights as a consummer and this is not AT ALL what I paid for, it seems this telescope has been previously returned and the store was just waiting for another fool to buy it. Hopefully this will appear on the web page and will not be hidden under all the good reviews encouraging enthusiastic people to buy something that will hardly meet their minimun expectations.
