Description

Celestron C6-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain

The C6-SGT, 6-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with XLT coatings is a member of Celestron's Advanced telescope series. Celestron Advanced scopes combine state-of-the-art technology, easy-to-use features and ready-to-use components to produce instruments of unparalleled quality and utility. The C6-SGT comes mounted on the CG-5 GT computerized equatorial mount that allows access to features like automatic star alignment capability and GoTo slewing to more than 40,000 objects. Equipped with high-speed motors and a hand controller, the C6-SGT allows you to slew your telescope remotely to desired objects quickly and accurately. No matter whether you're a beginner, an intermediate viewer, or an advanced amateur astronomer, this precision instrument will satisfy your needs both visually and photographically.

Celestron CG-5 EQ Mount

This new, German equatorial mount has precision worm gears on both axes for extremely smooth tracking motion. The new, heavy-duty tripod with larger and more substantial legs offer excellent damping characteristics for more stable views. In fact, the CG-5 is the most stable mount in its class. The CG-5 also has a convenient latitude scale for easier alignment, as well as an optional polar finder scope for the ultimate in precision alignments.

StarBright XLT Coatings
Celestron's XLT coating process uses state-of-the-art, thin-film, vacuum-deposition technology. To ensure consistent optical coatings of the highest quality, the process is tightly monitored and controlled by highly trained technicians. Prior to coating, each optical element is thoroughly cleaned and inspected to ensure proper adhesion of the films during the coating process. Materials used in our reflective and anti-reflective coatings, including aluminum, hafnium oxide, titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, and magnesium fluoride are the purest available, exceeding 99.99 percent. The result is image clarity so stunning, it must be seen to be believed.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

Solid and well constructed, this is not a toy...it's an excellent first "real scope".

Assembly might be a bit daunting at first, as the manual tends to presume a familiarity with terminology that may not be present for the typical buyer of this scope. Take heart, however...it's pretty difficult to screw it up.

Alignment works quite well, GoTo seems fairly accurate, and the "Precise GoTo" works like a charm. The 'new' "All-Star Polar Align" feature seems to work fairly well, though you're likely to still need a good guider for true long exposure photography. 1-2 minute exposures, however, seem very achievable with a minimum of effort.

This scope and its tripod are BIG and HEAVY. Assembled, the whole unit will push 70 pounds or more, with a footprint of 6 feet or more in diameter when the legs are spread out. You won't be tossing this thing in and out of the trunk with ease. An evening of observing will take some planning and logistical coordination to get everything where it need to be. it certainly CAN all be carried in even a small car, but don't plan on grabbing it out of the closet for a quick trip outside.

    Service and delivery comments:

Item arrived on time, as expected, well packed and in good working order.

Hayneedle/Telescopes.com processed the order and payment immediately, and sent regular reminders and updates of the order status and shipping information.

    A pleasant buying experience.

Comments about Celestron Advanced Series C6-SGT Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope:

This is a great telescope at a great price! I've owned the C-6sgt for over a year now and can attest to the quality of this scope. It has completed my scope arsenal consisting of an 80mm.refractor,a 10in.Dob, and the C-6. From the rock solid mount, the handy and easy to use go to, unlimited accessory options,to the great images produced by the XLT coatings, this scope has been a dream come true for me. Even the Celestron 1.25 in. eyepiece and filter kit gets 5 stars with quality construction and bright views that wont disappoint anyone. I'd like to thank Celestron for making Quality products that everyday americans can afford, and thanx 2 telescopes.com [...]. Will definately do business with them again!!

I use this scope in decent conditions, nothing too dark or too light polluted. Great views of the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, nebulae. I have begun to learn astro-photography with a t-adapter and my 35mm camera.

Great scope for the price. Tracking and go-to are great.

          Customer Q & A

Q1: What can I see with this telescope?

A: The Celestron C6-S GT telescope is a powerful scope. You'll get great views of the Moon and its craters 3-4 miles in diameter. You'll also be able to view all the planets but the "dwarf planet" Pluto; however, Uranus and Neptune will be greenish dots about the size of a pinhead. You'll see nebulae, Andromeda and other galaxies, and you'll be able to bring in the light from about 15 million stars.

Q2: I know I have asked this question before and did not really understand one thing. So, sorry for asking again. I am ready to purchase the GPS CN16. I do not understand where it will plug into my Celestron C6-S GT Schimdt-Cassegrain W/XLT, sku: 11079-XLT. I do

A: To go with your C6-S GT scope, you'll need Celestron's Auxiliary Port Accessory Kit. The kit includes includes what is essentially a "hub," that plugs into your scope mount's auxiliary port and allows you to plug in the CN16 GPS accessory. Here's the URL for the kit; just paste it into your browser's address window: http://telescopes.com/products/celestron-auxilary-port-accessory-kit-24818.html.

Q3: Does this telescope work with batteries? How many batteries and which type does it need?

A: This telescope can be powered by 8 AA batteries, the included car adapter, or an AC wall adapter unit.

Q4: What are the shipping dimentions and weight of this telescope?

          A: The Celestron Advanced C6-SGT ships in two boxes.   The first box measures 21"L x 16"W x 11"H and weighs 15lbs.   The second box measures 38"L x 24'W x 13"H and weighs 57lbs.
