Comments about Vortex Optics Masterpiece Collection Encore Opera Glasses:
After one use at the Los Angeles Opera the glasses were great and my companion said that they were better than her adjustable focus.
I could not comment on the Scratch Resistance as I have not expierenced any issue mso far.
Q1: What does focus free operation mean? How does focus free compare to other opera glasses that require a focus operation? Is one style "better" than the other? Thank you. MJ
A: Focus-free operation indicates that the opera glasses' optics are permanently set to infinity, like those of an inexpensive camera. There are two advantages to this. First, glasses of this design are less expensive to manufacture than glasses with variable focus. And second, you needn't bother with focusing when you're trying to view action on stage, providing what you want to view is within the glasses' focus range. Glasses with variable focus are superior, however, because they can be precisely focused for any given range. With focus-free glasses, everything beyond a certain minimum distance will at best be "more or less" in focus.
