Q1: First of all what is the function of the IR? Second, the review of the previous review indicated problems with the batteries staying in place, is this common? Third , I camp very much, what is the advantage of the digital as aposed to the Binocular that has built in IR, or does the digital have the built in IR?
A: The simplest way to put it is the IR is basically a flashlight that is invisible to the naked eye. what it is used for is to create an ambient level of light that allows you to see in pitch black.
Q2: What generation is this, I or II (I am guessing not III because of the price)? Not that it makes a huge difference, but it would help to know.
A: This is a Gen 1 binocular
Q3: are these good for in the woods and looking across pasters how far can you see?
A: Yes, the Bushnell 2.5x42 Binocular with built-in IR will work just fine in the woods and for viewing across pastures. Maximum range is 600 yards, and magnification is 2.5X, so objects 200 yards away will appear just 80 yards distant.
