The Celestron 44340 LDM - LCD Digital Microscope puts your discoveries on a large screen so everyone can view them together. The LCD screen replaces the traditional eyepiece for comfortable viewing and sharing. A built-in 2-megapixel camera records your finds and even takes short videos, which you can transfer to a desktop or laptop computer using the included USB cable or SD memory card slot (SD card not included).
40x to 400x magnification can be amped up to 1600x using the powerful digital zoom feature. Top and bottom LED lighting is clean and cool, and a six-position color filter wheel lets you focus better on certain aspects of your sample.

looking at blood slides and thin sections;
+ the unit has a lot of magnification
+ the images aren't too bad on the screen
- no fine focus & stage is twitchy
- unit moves when you hit the Snap button, ruining image
- unsteady base, have added leveling feet to it
- PC interface doesn't work

Wow! Great microscope for the price!! It's very lightweight and easy to use and comes with a hard sided case that seems well built. It doesn't seem like it would hold up very well in harsh conditions so I won't be taking it on field excursions but seems pretty hardy for home use. Definitely not a microscope you would see in biology class at the university, but for the price AND being able to see objects at 1600X you just can't beat it! Highly recommended for parents/kids and biology nerds such as myself!

This is an everyday microscope for nondestructive evaluation of surfaces. The LCD has sufficient clarity and the controls work well for detailed viewing.
