Fit Notes: If pistol has ambidextrous safety, right-hand lever must be shortened to clear laser. Pre-shortened Ed Brown safeties are available from CTC, but must be fitted by a gunsmith.

Technical Specifications:

Beam Intensity - 5mw peak, 633nm, class IIIa laser. Maximum output that federal law and technology allow.

Dot Size - Approximately 0.5" diameter at 50 feet.

Power Source - Two #2032 lithium batteries (included); over four hours of on-time use and a five year shelf life.

I originally purchased a set of Crimson Trace LG-304 grips for my Kimber Ultra Carry. These have activation buttons on both sides of the grips and should work for both right handed shooters and lefties. I say should because I have rather small hands for an average sized guy and I just could not activate the laser without squeezing the living heck out of the grip to the point of shaking, and then it was iffy. My fingers just would not line up with the switches. Thank goodness for Binoculars.coms outstanding customer service. I called them up and explained my plight and they happily exchanged the LG-304 for a front activated LG-404. What a huge difference, but Ill get into that in a moment. First Id like to touch on the quality of the packaging. The kit includes a protective cloth to work on and a set of batteries as well as an extremely well written manual. Installation took all of 5 minutes and the fit and finish are excellent for a rubber grip, with no extra bulk that I could detect.

Ok on to the LG-404 itself. The main difference is that the activation button lives just under the trigger guard and is activated by the middle finger. Unlike the LG-304s design the LG-404s design works perfectly and effortlessly every time I want it to light up.

The laser on all Crimson Trace grips sits just under and to the right of the barrel and come preset from the factory to converge with point of impact at roughly 10 yards. This means that any closer and the beam will be slightly lower and to the right, and any farther away the beam will be increasingly high and to the left. So does this matter? Not really in a personal defense situation. Most gunfights take place at less than 10 yards and if my life is on the line I dont care if the bullet hits 1/8 high and to the left at 10 feet. The purpose of the beam is to help you get off an accurate and fight stopping shot much, much faster and not to turn a 45 into a sniper rifle. If you are not happy with the factory point of aim the laser is easily adjustable with a supplied Allen wrench.

Im going to give the LG-404 and Binoculars.com each 5 stars.
