I feel most binculars are too high in power. The six power, for applications other than glassing open country, is perfect. In my case, I hunt with a Leupold fixed-power, 6 x 42 scope so I get the same magnification with scope and binoculars. Also in wooded or partial wooded terrain, I get a wider field of view, and a brighter, clearer image and they are easier to hold steady. I have a pair of Leupold 8 x 42 which I love, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the 6 x 32 Katmia from Leupold.

This binocular is the most useful power on the market. There is no need for the 8 power or 10 power. The Leupold Katmia 6 X 32 is bright, crisp and steady. It has a wide field of view and to me is the most practical glass I have found.
I own a pair of Leupold 8 X 42 and I will take the 6 X 32 with me every time unless I'm in open county. I hunt the southeast and my scope is a 6 X 42 fix power Leupold. My scope and biniculars show me the same images. I love it.

I read a review on numerous makes and models of binoculars for birding and they rated them based on dozens of regular people as well as birders of varying degrees of experience trying them all and this bino was rated at number 1 in the medium price range as far as close focus, lens quality, use with glasses, etc. With that information I bought my Katmai binoculars. They're great!! I use them primarily for close observation in heavily forested, brushy, and/or dense vegetation.The lens quality is so good that they actually seem more powerful than 6x32s. They are exceptionally bright with a more than generous field of view. They're perfect for observing birds out of the windows at feeders or on the lawns;especially if you count birds as I do for Cornell. I also find them very useful for watching butterflies and other insects such as bees, hornets and wasp. The close focus of 4.9 feet allows for exceptional viewing. Very rugged and well built and worth much more than what you pay for them. [...] Perfect for specific needs.

I am so pleased with my purchase of the black 6x32 Leupold Katmai binoculars.

The shipment arrived in a little over a week, in a large well padded box, in perfect condition.

I wear bifocals with transitional lenses, and have 20/220 vision, with astigmatism. I tried the binoculars for the first time in late afternoon dappled sunlight and shadows. The view was bright, colorful, crisp and steady. Not a trace of eye strain. No problem at all using these binoculars with my bifocals. Since I am accustomed to my own compromised eyesight, I was amazed at the quality of the view through these binoculars. What a joy.

The Katmai binoculars are described as midsize, but they are lightweight and easy to manage. The 6x magnification is perfect for walks in the park to enjoy the birds and squirrels.

These binoculars have a clean, modern design, and a fine finish. The fittings are positive, and respond easily and smoothly. Detached lens caps are included.

Leupold supplies a thinly padded case. The binoculars, Leupold case, strap, and included lens cloth all fit snugly inside a small-sized Steiner binocular bag. The Steiner binobag must be purchased separately.

These are fine binoculars at a very fair price. Strongly recommended if you wear glasses or are troubled by shaking hands, or the unsteady image caused by higher magnification lenses.
