Q1: I am looking for my first binoculars, which I intend to use for both daytime boat watching from the balcony, and basic astronomical observations. I am trying to decide between the Nikon Action 16x50 and the 12x50. While inclining more towards the 16x50, the only thing that concerns me is the 3.1mm exit pupil, I'm not sure if I should worry about it being too small that I will affect night-time observations. I'm 30 yrs old. Thanks.
A: While the 16x50 will give you more magnification and be better for night use, without a tripod the image projected will be very shaky due to the vibrations from your arms. If you do not want these tripod mounted, the best option would be the 12x50. The 3.1mm exit pupil will not make your viewing difficult or have any effect on night time viewing.
