Comments about Steiner 8x30 Military-Marine Binoculars:
I've been a boater most of my life. I've owned and used everything from $40.00 Tasco and Bushnell to $600.00 Fujinon Polaris binoculars. These binos have great optics and appear rugged and well built. I was going to ding them one * for the lens covers and neck strap but the price performance ratio swayed me to leave it. These were bought to be quick, handy binos to point at interesting things while ashore and they are great for that. I can't comment on the longevity and durability since I just bought them. I've seen some comments they're worthless in low light but I think they're fine for my use. I'd sum them up as great performers at great price.

Comments about Steiner 8x30 Military-Marine Binoculars:
I bought these about 10 years ago just to keep in my car for casual viewing. I feel I have normal size hands they are light weight and feel good in my hands
I love the focus once and forget idea. The competition likes to bash this feature. the center focus type is a pain to me. I'm always having to check the focus. I don't have eye strain with the Steiners. They are easy to store without a case.

Q1: Are these auto focus? If yes, are there any disadvantages as opposed to adjustable binoculars? Are theses binoculars too powerful for viewing sports such as football, baseball, or basketball?
A: These are not "Auto-Focus" binoculars, but "Individual Focus". You adjust the diopter of each eyepiece to your vision and then they require no further adjustments. They are not too powerful for sporting events. In fact, an 8x binocular is typically the most recommended for stadium sports.
Q2: Are blue tinted objective lenses used in military service because of the little reflection produced? Do other tints create more visible reflection thus possible being seen by the enemy?
A: That is correct.
Q3: Are these binoculars suitable for use with glasses?
A: Absolutely, the measurement to keep in mind when buying binoculars and wearing glasses is called the eye relief. For comfortable viewing through the binocular while wearing glasses you will need an eye relief measurement of 15mm or greater. These have an eye relief of 20mm.
Q4: Is a reticle inside? Is the image color-neutral, or is a yellow or greenish tint visible?
A: These do not have a reticle, the Military R is the Steiner version that does. There is a slight greenish tint with these but it is almost imperceptible to the naked eye.
Q5: What is the minimum distance that these glasses may be focused?
A: The close focus works out to be approximately 10ft.
