About Steiner
From its humble, post-WWII beginnings, Steiner has become one of the largest manufacturers of high-quality optics. Optics pioneer Karl Steiner established Steiner Optik GmbH in 1947, offering products from small cameras to binoculars and special lenses. As the company grew, it increasingly focused its production on professional high-quality binoculars. Steiner innovations include rubber armoring, the first binoculars ever with an integrated compass, the first binocular with special optical coating to protect against harmful UV radiation, the pocket-size binocular, and the new Predator lens coating to increase contrast of animals against wooded backgrounds.

Today, Karl Steiner's son Carl continues to strengthen and develop the company's position as a world leader in binocular production, utilizing the highest level of technology and setting high standards for future products with all binocular manufacturers. Steiner is located in Moorestown, N.J.

Love these binoculars at our mountain cabin! Today we saw a moose through the binoculars so close that we could see each hair on his body. These are excellent for wildlife viewing! Can't wait to see a bear or a mountain lion from our deck!

Comments about Steiner 7x50 Marine Binoculars:

This is a great pair of binoculars, however, as others have noted they are heavy. This is not a problem for me because my main intended use for them is on a cruising Catamaran. However, for their first outing I took them on an expedition to the Arctic and they were all that I expected. Great from the ship - everything in focus. Good with glasses. Heavy to hike with but worth it ashore. The high point: up on the bridge of the National Geographic Explorer what does the Captain use for navigation? - Stiener Commanders - virtually the same binocular. I initially thought 4 stars for the rating because perfection is hard to find but considering the value for money in these binoculars they earn the five stars.

    Customer Q & A

Q1: Is there any difference in image quality between this 7x50 Marine and the Steiner 7x50 Military binoculars? Why does the Military version cost more?

A: Yes, there's a difference. The 7x50 Military is built to military specs and is nearly indestructible. In addition, its optical coatings offer roughly 97% light transmission vs. 90+% for the 7x50 Marine (accounting for much of the price difference). The Military also incorporates a range-finding reticle, which the Marine does not.

Q2: What is the "close focus" for the Steiner 7X50 Marine STEI040 Binoculars?

A: The Steiner 7x50 marine binoculars have a close focus distance of 15ft.
