Comments about Pentax 10x43mm DCF SP Binoculars:

These are excellent binoculars and a huge step up from cheaper models. I own the 10x43s and the 10x50. I also own an older Swarovski 7x30. I find them to be excellent and they have a good quality feel. I expect the optical design to be good because Pentax eyepieces are so superb in telescopes. That is to say in telescope eyepieces Pentax blows away the competition in terms of minimal distortions and you see that ethic at work in these binos. However, in the the $2k upper price ranges you should be getting ED color correction in addition to superb image presentation. On the DCF SPs you can get color fringing on a bird high in the blue sky, for example, which is a difficult test for optics. The moon will show a lime green fringe at night. Cheaper binoculars will do far worse color aberration! But there are binoculars on the market that don't have chromatic aberration but at much higher cost. As a rule the color correction doesn't matter much for general use--sports events, hunting, ballet, etc. For astronomical use these and the 10x50s are terrific. But if you're paying thousands in air fare to catch a glimpse of a rare bird in a remote swamp you probably should get fully color corrector binos. Excellent light pass through: my 10x43s roof prisms (which supposedly are a design disadvantage for light transmission) blow away some 10x50 porros that were specifically sold as astronomical binocs. That shouldn't happen with the 10x50 porros' extra millimeters! It just goes to show how much light can be lost from cheaper designs. These are as much binocular as I'm ever going to need. When you hand them to people they tend to go "wow I've never used binoculars like this" and the experienced users will say "hey these are pretty good!" I won't speak to selling your Zeiss or Swaros to get Pentax DCF SPs but this is an excellent product. I will say I'm not fond of the lens caps and on my 10x43s I bought the Vortex lens caps as an extra but I'm making do with lens caps on the 10x50s.

Comments about Pentax 10x43mm DCF SP Binoculars:

Simply Brilliant - I have the 8 x 32 SP and Leica Trinovid 8 x 32 as well - the pentax are noticeably sharper and more contrasty.
The only fault is that the diopter adjustment doesnt lock down very securely, but otherwise the perfect bino - and so cheep!

Comments about Pentax 10x43mm DCF SP Binoculars:

My friend has swarovski binocs that cost him $1500. My pentax perform better. He is so jealous he might sell his to buy pentax like mine. Another friend bought these on my recomendation and says they are the best. And he can afford the best. I also have a pair of Zeiss comparably priced that I won, and pentax is better. I am only recommending this model, its what I use.

Comments about Pentax 10x43mm DCF SP Binoculars:

Your description of edge to edge sharpness is absolutely true. I am thrilled with the quality and image brightness of the 10x43. I would rate these as good as the Zeiss Conquest and close to the Swarovski 10x40 for 3 times the money; the Pentax is that good. The image just pops! I consider this a real sleeper; highest quality at medium price. These are nor cheap, but worth every penny. I reccomend these to any bird watcher or hunter. Thank you Pentax. As you can tell, I'm excited about this product. jk

          Customer Q & A

Q1: how do you focus these binoculars?

A: Pentax 10x43 DCF SP binoculars have a regular center-focus mechanism like most binoculars. You focus by turning the knob between the two optical tubes, or "barrels."
