Description

Binoculars and spotting scopes from MINOX always offer cutting-edge technology and highest quality in all product classes, with an outstanding price/performance ratio. The MINOX BV 10x42 stand out with the renowned design and performance features that MINOX Sport Optics is famous for. Excellently suited for universal application in all fields of hunting and gamekeeping, as well as for the observation of flora and fauna in the wild.

With their state-of-the-art optical systems the new BV 10x42 guarantee outstanding viewing quality and enjoyment. These systems feature multicoated lens elements that minimize reflections and provide an exceptionally high light transmission as well as neutral color rendition of the subjects in view. Thanks to roof prisms with phasecorrection coating the user can enjoy an image with excellent detail rendition and high image contrast – even in low light conditions. Fitted with a 10x magnification the MINOX BV binoculars are the ideal all-purpose companion for hunters and nature observers who want to keep hold of the smallest detail of the subject spotted in the field.

The extremely slim figure that is made possible by using modern roof prisms and the excellent grip provided by the rubber armoring make the BV binoculars good to hold without causing fatigue. The sturdy aluminum body guarantees reliable functioning of the optical systems and precision mechanics that are protected against dust and water using an innovative sealing technology. The BV 10x42 reliably withstand moisture penetration up to a pressure of 0.3 bar or a comparable water depth of three meters. A nitrogen filling on the inside of the binoculars provides permanent corrosion protection and prevents fogging of the glass surfaces, even with severe temperature fluctuations.

With their extended eye relief and twist-type rubber eye cups with click stops the binoculars of the new BV line ideally meet the individual requirements of people wearing eyeglasses, enabling them to enjoy the entire field of view without vignetting.

Comments about Minox BV II 10x42mm BR Waterproof Binoculars:

I decide on these after considering a few others in the sub-$300 category. My criteria were:

    10x
    Wide field of view
Clarity like top of the line glass

I have only used these for 3 days so far, however I am impressed. Coming off using 8x bins, these make everything appreciably larger. This may not help with identification, however (coupled with the clarity) these provide picking out small field marks on birds is much easier. Not only that, but watching bird behavior is much more interesting with a large image.

Now what you would typically give up with 10x bins is FOV. This had been a large part of why I have always used 8x bins. I like the higher magnification that helps with shore birds and raptors, but did not want to give up the wide FOV required for spotting little birds in the brush. Well no worries there, the FOV is as wide as most of the other 8x bins in the $300 group (pentax and nikon being the two others). On top of that the close focus is better as well.
Focus wheel is smooth and fast, but not too fast. Perfect for birding in my mind. No slop, no grinding, just smoothness.
Hinged are stiff. This is good, nothing worse than hinges that seem to adjust themselves when not between outings.

One downside that i've noticed is that when looking into the sun (NOT at the sun) there is a slight glare that shows up along the bottom edge of the image. This may be something that shows up on other bins, but I have never noticed it before. This could be due to the fact that the objective lenses are recessed well back from the end the the barrel, but again it is minor. It is possible I only notice it now because these things are otherwise CLEAR from edge to edge in all other conditions.

Downsides that I am not concerned with:
-Heavy. These are much heavier than nikons or pentax bins, but on par with you better binocular companies like zeiss, swarovski, or leica. Not a big issue for me
-Lame strap. The neckstrap that came with them is short and should quickly be replaced with a longer, wider strap or with a good harness. I own both and am not worried.
-No objective lens caps. Again not a big deal. I 've never used them in the past. When they are on my neck they don't have covers on (sometimes eyepiece covers which are excellent on these). When they are in the nice little case that came with, it is not an issue.

Hope I covered everything. I think you can comment below if I have missed anything. Again, super happy with these. It is very unlike me to write a lengthy product review, but in this case I can make an exception. Hope this was helpful.

Comments about Minox BV II 10x42mm BR Waterproof Binoculars:

You know you are using a serious product when you hold it in your hands. The "rubber armor" inspires confidence. It is heavy. You are not going to want to carry around your neck for long periods of time (though the strap is very nice). I am happy with my purchase and Binoculars.com (first time buyer). I bought my wife a Minox BV II 10 x 25.

Comments about Minox BV II 10x42mm BR Waterproof Binoculars:

I am thrilled with these high quality Minox binoculars. I use these binoculars to watch birds, and just for the pleasure of viewing when I'm out in the woods or fishing. What I appreciate most about them is the crisp, sharp image. It is a little more difficult to pick up a moving object with a 10-power bino (due to the narrower field of view) than with the old 7X50's I have used for many years. But I appreciate the extra magnification provided by the BV II 10X42 BR, even though the twilight factor (image brighness) is not as high as with 7X50's. Hand tremor is a tad more noticable but not a problem at all. I gave these binoculars a 4-star rather than a 5-star rating for two reasons: (a) Because I had a hard time turning the stiff diopter adjustment on the right eyepiece. This may be because I don't have full freedom of movement in my right wrist, due to an old elbow injury years ago but I found it pretty difficult to smoothly turn the adjustment ring, which is a bit narrow and not knurled all the way around; (b) Also, I find it more difficult to use the 10X42's with eyeglasses (trifocals) than I was accustomed to with my old, lower powered 7X50's, but that may be the case with any 10-power binocular, not just this model. However, this didn't present a huge problem, since I don't mind (in fact, I prefer) taking my glasses off when using the binoculars. On the second day of use, I discovered an eagle nest that I never knew was there, even though I had seen eagles perching in the vicinity on several occasions. The nest just "leaped out" at me. With respect to image quality and optical performance, by far the most important considerations to me, I would rate the Minox BVII 10X42 BR as a 5-star performer.
