Description

Leupold® 10x 42mm Cascades Binoculars in black finish are center-focus, roof-prism binoculars that give you the sharp, bright images with the full contrast and color fidelity serious birders demand even when the light is low. Their in-line design makes them trim, lightweight, and a pleasure to use, whether you're in the backyard or away at more far-flung locales. The slim, in-line design is also ergonomic and easy to grip in all weather conditions.

Leupold Cascades binoculars offer a crisp, bright sight picture, twist-up eyecups and long eye relief even with eyeglasses. The center-focus, dial-mounted, lockable diopter secures your diopter setting against accidental shifts. They also feature a rain guard, rugged construction, shock-absorbing rubber armor, and multi-coated lenses for brightness and clarity. Limited lifetime warranty.

From humble immigrant beginnings, Leupold grew, based on a promise of quality, to become a classic American company. In 1907, Fred Leupold set up a one-man shop at 5th and Oak streets in Portland, Ore., to repair surveying equipment. He was joined by his brother-in-law, Adam Voelpel, and later by inventor John Cyprian Stevens, and the foundations for a century of success were in place.

During Leupold's second half-century, the company has focused heavily on the sports optics business. Leupold's presence in the hunting and shooting market expands, and finally dominates, with innovative optics and features that are now legendary among hunters, shooters, and outdoors enthusiasts. Many of the industry's standards - nitrogen waterproofing, the Duplex® reticle, and more - are Leupold creations.

Customer Q & A

Q1: What is the twilight factor? Can you recommend a binocular with a high magnification / twilight factor for hunting?

A: The twilight factor is 25 and this is an excellent binocular for hunting.

Q2: Is it fogproof?

A: Absolutely 100% Waterproof, Fogproof, and Shockproof.

Q3: For hunting purposes, I am looking at the Leupold Windriver Cascades and the Pentax DCF HR II. I am trying to stay around $300. Can you break the tie between the two?

A: Well, I'm not sure if I can break the tie but I can certainly give you some pro's and con's that might help you make your decision! The first thing I noticed immediately was that the field of view in the Pentax is 50 feet wider than the Leupolds. (315 ft @ 1,000 yds vs. 267ft @ 1,000 yds. The weights are within .30 lbs of one another. The exit pupil is slightly larger than the Leupold and both have excellent eye relief (if you wear glasses ever). The Pentax are excellent all around: full multi-coatings/phase coated prisms/ waterproof&fogproof. The Leupolds appear to be excellent too - with multi-coated optics. Personally, I would choose the Pentax because of the wider field of view (a 10x magnification can be difficult to hold still in hunting situations - extra field of view will allow you to stay on an object a little easier without losing it). The full multi-coating compared to a multi-coating can make a difference too. The more coatings and the more light you are able to capture inside of your binocular. . the better you'll be. Hope this helped somewhat!

Q4: Where is the Glass in Leupold Binoculars Made?

A: Leupold 10x42 Cascade Binoculars are made in Japan.
