Comments about Vanguard Endeavor ED 8.5x45 Binoculars:
As the publisher of an engineering magazine, I educated myself on bins for about two weeks before I bought the Vanguard 8.5x45 Endeavors. They have nearly the same specs as the comparable Vortex Talon and Swarovski models for much less money. I'm sure the overall quality of those two brands make them worth the money, but for a novice birder like me these Endeavors are great. Terrific picture any way you slice it--clarity, sharpness, colors, light transmission. Used them already for a birding trip and they performed like a champ. During that trip, one of the veteran birders said these are a great "starter pair." I regard them as more than that, but maybe if you've been birding for 20 years you can tell the difference. Another birder was kind enough to let me try her Swarovski 8x42s. They were spectacular, but then I think my Vanguard Endeavors are pretty spectacular, too. The Vortex Talon 8x42 goes close to $600. The comparable Swarovskis model more than $2,500. I'm sure they're worth every penny, but these endeavors are fantastic bins for $259 on b/com. One feature they have is extra long eyepieces with locking right diopter. I love the conical design. They are very easy to grasp, hold and balance.I recommend these bins highly.
