Description

The leather covered 42 mm Ultravid BL model looks especially elegant and is reminiscent of the legendary binoculars and cameras which made Leica famous. The leather covering also allows its weight to be under 700 grams (24.7 oz).

Magnesium and titanium are the strengths of the 50 mm, 42 mm, and 32 mm Ultravid lightweights. A housing manufactured completely out of magnesium and the articulated axle made of high-strength titanium guarantee both a long life and an ultra light weight.

Easy to use and fabulous to look at:, the newly designed central focusing device is an outstanding functional achievement. Technical precision is hidden in the most compact space. This new scale facilitates easy reading of the diopter values and the large focus wheel is easy to use. The extremely short focusing path of slightly more than one rotation also allows the optimum point of focus to be found quickly.

I compared these in-hand against Zeiss and Swarovski before purchasing. In my opinion high-end optics are really a matter of personal preference; while I found the Leica to be only marginally superior optically to the others, what really sold me was the in-hand fit and feel, and the heavy-duty construction. The optical clarity is phenomenal.

I HAVE LOOKED THROUGH MANY BINOCULARS AND I STILL KEPT COMING BACK TO THE LEICAS. CONTRARY TO THE 7X42S OR 8X42S FOR BIRDING I REALLY LIKE THE EXTRA MAGNIFICATION WITH THE 10X42S. ESPECIALLY WHEN THESE BINOCULARS WEIGH IN AT ONE AND A HALF POUNDS THEY ARE NOT A PROBLEM FOR VIEWING. WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY, THE INCREDIBLE SHARPNESS IS INCREDIBLE.

Tested these against my Zeiss and Swarovski and found them to be the best. Light gathering is excellent and rf worked perfectly. cool mornings and evenings allowed rf out to 1350. hot sunny afternoons rf out to 1100. focus adjustment is excellent and eyepiece adjustment for glasses and contact lenses was superb. Best all-around optics i have ever used.
