Description

The Peregrine XP's new lightweight Magnesium housing incorporates Steiner's unique Nitrogen Purging and Pressurization process making moisture invasion a virtual impossibility in any climate. The XP's 44mm objective lenses are nearly 10% larger than a 42mm lenses transmitting more light. The new XP binocular also has an exceptionally large 30 mm ocular lens. These larger lenses combined with XP Lens Technology and the binocular's ergonomic body design with fast focusing system give it rapid handling that makes focusing on close or distant subjects easy and comfortable.

An added benefit is that the new design offers the user an exceptionally high depth of field, uncommon with roof prism binoculars and extremely beneficial in low light wildlife observation. Combined with new, twist-up/down eye cup system that comes standard with flip-shroud eyecups.

The Peregrine XP Binoculars feature an ergonomically shaped rubber covered body in an attractive, dark forest green color. Embedded in the armor, Steiner has used a new gel-filled grip and thumb pad that adds a considerable amount of grip and comfort when holding and viewing with the binoculars.

8x44 Peregrine XP -The advantage of the 8x Peregrine XP is clear; a wide (7.4") viewing field offers quick location of birds, wildlife and viewing subjects. The 8x magnification also results in a larger exit pupil which can make the view appear slightly brighter, especially if using the binocular with eyeglasses. The rich colors are complimented by the large, bright 44mm lenses.

Nano Protection

The Peregrine XP uses Steiner's revolutionary new lens coating application called "NANO protection" which eliminates rain, snow and moisture from your view.  NANO is a permanent hydrophobic coating that is so smooth that it's even smooth at the molecular level.  The NANO coating is applied to both the objective and eye-piece lenses.

High Definition Optics

Steiner developed these remarkable optics.  The optical formula is our own development using the purest index matched glass, and coatings using rare-earth formulations of titanium, fluorite and other mineral substrates.  The result is record brightness and truest color, with optimal contrast.

N2 Pressurization

Like many Steiner models, the Peregrine XP is Mil.Spec (meets mil std 810-E) waterproof and is pressurized at 22 PSI (over pressure 7.25 PSI) with dry nitrogen gas.

Eye Relief

With 30mm wide eyepieces or "oculars", you not only gain a "into the image" feeling, but you also get the highest comfort of any roof prism binocular - making the view very engaging with no light or peripheral interference.

Precision Center Focus

The focus is not too fast, nor too slow - with a silky 1.5 turns, you'll go from the 6.5 foot close focus to infinity.  However, you'll be amazed to see that the Peregrine XP offers a much higher depth of field than any similar sized roof prism binocular, so the need for focusing is minimized - making your eyes better, especially in low light or shadows.

Peregrine XP Accoutrements

Some of the simplest external features will be loved by you and copied by our peers.  The Clic-Loc strap system makes removal quick, and attachment of your harness a cinch.  The form-fitted Neoprene Rain Hood; goes on easy, comes off easy, and stays put when you're carrying your Peregrine XP

Twist-up Eye-cups

With the XP's extensive eye relief, you'll be able to set the desired eye-distance or eye relief for maximum viewing comfort.  It's easy to use the XP with or without eyeglasses, or with the convenient glare blocking side flaps, or not.

Gel-pad Thumb Grips

The first thing you'll probably notice is the uniquely "grip-able" surface on the thumb pad area of the Peregrine XP.  Soft and confortable - like little pillows for your thumbs.  The XP's light weight and comfortable feel in your hands will make you more effective when you're glassing.

Comments about Steiner 8x44 Peregrine XP Binoculars:

Medium and large animal hunting with bow and rifle. 2 primary reasons I selected this product were large field of view and low light acquisition. I am very satisfied with both.

Comments about Steiner 8x44 Peregrine XP Binoculars:

I had the opportunity a few days ago to compare these side by side with the 8.5x Swarovski ELs, the binocular a lot of birders consider to be the best in existence.

        The XPs are better.

The field of view is identical (although the ELs win out slightly in this department due to their extra .5x of magnification), but the XPs have much greater depth of field and smoother focusing. It was a fairly cloudy day, and I couldn't pick up on any difference in brightness, aberrations, etc.

Now, a few potential drawbacks: a friend of mine who wears glasses and uses ELs tried the XPs and had some trouble. As always, try before you buy. You need a team of mules to set the diopter, but you only need to do this once, so it's only a minor hassle. As this is a new model, it remains to be seen how the gel padding will hold up after a few years of use.

        Very impressive

        By Jonathan K. Mortensen

Comments about Steiner 8x44 Peregrine XP Binoculars:

I am an enthusiastic nature watcher and photographer and just returned from a photo safari to Alaska. One of the National Geographic photo guides had this new Steiner 8x44 binocular and participants could try it out. Luckily I did because it was the best binocular I have ever put my hands on (and eyes). The image was breathtakingly sharp and without any color bias. Even at night the image was very bright.

The guide told me about some gel cusions under the armor and how great they were for extended glassing sessions - that sounded weird but once I touched them I fell in love. No idea why nobody ever came up with something like that. I was actually considering some Leica or Swarovski binocularsthe before that trip. Now I'm happy that I did not purchase them before. I just have to get one of those Steiners!

Comments about Steiner 8x44 Peregrine XP Binoculars:

I am a very active birder and have been for over 40 years. I bird in "crazy" temperture variations, rough terrain, and everything from salt water to fresh water areas. I've owned many "top three" bins. These new Steiners are without a doubt....the best yet in every category ! Thank you Steiner!!!!!!
