Description

8x42 Merlin Binoculars

The best brightness and widest field of view of the Merlin Series. This is the best all-around size and model for most all birding applications. The brightness and field of view have many benefits, especially in lower light or following birds in flight.

For the hunter, birder or naturalist, Steiner's new roof-prism Merlin line offers exceptional brightness and resolution. Very fast, yet smooth and precise center focusing with 6' close focus . Fully multi-coated optics assure optimal brightness in low light situations. Rubber-armored exterior makes the Merlins very durable and provides good grip. The rugged armoring also makes them silent for up-close glassing or stalking. The unique earth-tone dark brown color exterior was especially formulated to not reflect light, but rather absorb it and make the binoculars almost transparent to wildlife. Water resistant; guaranteed not to fog or leak; 10-year warranty.

If you need high performance for faster discovery, especially of birds on the move, take a close look at the new light-weight alloy bodied Steiner Merlin. They're precise, yet amazingly rugged and also fully waterproofed for even the rainiest days.

The optics are made with premium optical glass and are coated with our own natural color transmission multi-coating which boosts light transmission much higher than similar binoculars in this price range and yields extraordinary clarity, resolution and color fidelity.

Focusing is our unique "Fast-Focus" system which turns from close focus to infinite distance in two full turns of the focus wheel, for razor sharp fine tuning. The focusing is smooth and precise, and it's waterproof.

Since birds are skittish by the presence of bright or light colors, Steiner tried the opposite approach with the exterior finish of the Merlin: the almost transparent neutral color on the Merlin is a unique earth tone brown; chosen by Steiner's development staff and birders as a color least noticeable to birds.

Comments about Steiner 8x42 Merlin Binoculars:

We decided to invest a little more $$ in binoculars for a photo safari to Africa and are sooooo glad we chose these steiners. The focus and viewing of animals and birds was fantastic. We were traveling with four other couples and they constantly told each other to have a look through our binoculars as the view/clarity was so much better. There was nothing we could not see perfectly clear either near of far. I would say well worth the $$. The only issue is that they were so superior to other binoculars on the trip, that we had to share a lot...LOL.

Comments about Steiner 8x42 Merlin Binoculars:

I purchased these binoculars for my work and have found them to be an excellent binocular for the size and price. I get excellent light gathering for night use (our primary use). I also had the opportunity to use them in the Grand Canyon on an 8 hour, 10 mile hike. The weight was more than manageable and they were indispensable on a trip of this type. I strongly recommend them.

          Customer Q & A

Q1: What are the overall dimensions?

A: Approximately 6.5" in length by 4.75" in width.

Q2: I am looking into purchasing a pair of the Steiner Merlin 8x42. I was wondering if the eye piece is soft rubber that can be folded down or are they permanently in the upright position. I wear eye glasses and I just wanted to know if they will pose any problems there?

A: The Merlin's have a "soft rubber fold down" eye cup. So these are perfect for wearing eyeglasses.

Q3: What is the interpupillary distance?

A: The interpupillary distance of the Merlin is 51-72mm
