Description

Lightweight Champion of Dawn & Dusk

Even with an uncontested heritage of all-conditions optical performance, the all-new MONARCH 5 further elevates its game with improved agility and advanced low light brilliance.  By shaving nearly an ounce of weight from its rugged frame, the new MONARCH 5 is more athletic than ever, while the addition of Nikon ED glass lenses puts it in a class of its own for battling darkness with sharp, high-contrast views.

Nikon’s ED Glass Lenses - The Difference Is Clear

All MONARCH 5 binoculars are now built with Nikon’s legendary ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lenses, which correct chromatic aberrations across the furthest limits of the visible light range and effectively compensate for color fringing.  Even when observing objects that would make chromatic aberration the most apparent – such as adjacent whites and blacks – the images will maintain superior contrast and resolution thanks to the ED glass lenses. The improved resolution also provides brighter, more natural looking images, making the MONARCH 5 a serious contender to be your “go-to” binocular for years to come.

Extremely Portable - Now Lighter Than Ever Before

Almost a full ounce lighter than its predecessors, the new MONARCH 5 is even easier to take with you on your next outing. Its small size, combined with a sleek easy-to-grip body design, makes it the ultimate binocular to carry with you.

Enjoy Comfortable Viewing - Nikon’s High-Eyepoint Design

Nikon has manufactured the MONARCH 5 binoculars, as well as many other of its optics, with a high-eyepoint design. This provides a clear field of view for everyone, even when the user is wearing eyeglasses, with sufficient space between the user’s brow and the binocular’s eyecups.

Greater Light Transmission - Fully Multicoated Eco-Glass Lenses

Multilayer coatings, which provide an even higher light transmittance across the entire visible light spectrum, are applied to all of the lens and prism surfaces that transmit light. This minimizes the loss of light due to reflection, thereby ensuring a more natural, clearer view.

Rich, Accurate Colors - Dielectric High-Reflective Multilayer Prism Coating

Applied to all lenses and prism surfaces, this technique provides almost the same brightness as that perceived by the naked eye, and clear high-contrast images that display accurate color reproduction.

Turn-and-Slide Rubber Eyecups
The turn-and-slide rubber eyecups allow users to adjust the eye-relief for a custom fit - providing a full field of view and maximum comfort during extended periods of use.

Durable Rubber-Armored Body
Built to handle any environment, the MONARCH 5 has a rubber-armored coating to withstand extreme use and provide a non-slip grip, even in the wettest conditions.

Smooth Central Focus Knob
With this simple and intuitive design, bringing objects into focus has never been easier.

Waterproof and Fogproof
MONARCH 5 binoculars are Nitrogen filled and O-Ring sealed for complete waterproof and fogproof performance.

I started looking for a quality pair of binaculars after making a couple of bad purchases through generic mail order companies. Both times I was stuck with a pair of optics that weren't even worth looking through. Now granted I only paid in the $70-$80 range but I would have gotten more enjoyment from simply burning the money.

This time around I started looking at the high end optics $1500 and up. I along with a half dozen other customers got thoroughly disgusted with a big box, major brand store, (BPS), after waiting in line for 25 mins to be told we needed a number. I walked out and will not return. Eventually I found a couple pair of the high end optics to look through and I was very impressed. Unfortunately not $1800 worth of impressed.

Reality struck and I realized my needs were to have a pair to fit in a saddlebag on a bike and to take to Hawk Mtn. a few times a year. I have a great view from my kitchen window too and that's where the majority of the use is. I searched high and low on the web and found Binoculars.com. I found several reviews here and other places and narrowed my search down to the Monarch ATB's. I bought them sight unseen and was impressed from the time they were delivered. As others complained about the lens covers I would agree that they could have done a better job on the design but not a big deal to me.

The binoculars were waiting at my side door shortly after I ordered them. I got home from work to find the package in perfect shape.

Unfortunatley the days are short in the NE this time of year and it was dark outside. I unpacked the box, everything was packed and padded real well and I couldn't resist looking at an Aloe plant sitting near a front window. I didn't expect much but I was amazed that I could zoom right in on the plant and have as much detail with a perfectly crisp view. The room had some flourescent and incandescent lighting but nothing real bright. Just for grins I grabbed one of my other pairs and tried to take a peek at the plant. I couldn't see anything, I mean nothing but a big blur. At that moment I new I had a real winner.

My first true test was the next morning. I woke up and looked out the living room window to see a male Cardinal sitting on the power line in front of the house. He was only about 150' away but I was looking through an old single pane window and storm window at an angle and these windows should have been cleaned a long time ago. I focused real fast and real easy and had a perfect view of the Cardinal. Minutes later a pair of Doves landed on the line and same thing, I grabbed the Monarchs zoomed right in with a nice crisp clear view. I was amazed at the clarity and quality of the image. That was a real simple and basic first test and I realized on the spot that these would be a fine pair for the limited amount of birding that I do. A very favorable first impression.

A day or so later I saw deer in the pasture from my kitchen window. It was early in the morning and the sun was just coming up so lighting was at the low end. I stepped out on the side porch and took a peek at what I was sure was a doe. It ended up being a 7 point but it only had the right antler. The left antler was completly gone. The view was perfect, crisp and clear and that was in less than great light. This buck was about 200 yards away and the backdrop at the edge of the pasture is leavless brush and mature trees. Without the binos I would have sworn it was a doe. I'm seeing a lot more bucks behind my house than I ever knew existed because at the distance with the background being branches and sticks it was nearly impossible to tell if they had antlers.

I'm sure you could buy a better pair of optics but at what cost and what gain? I am very happy with my purchase and I believe I will remain happy for many years to come. At my age I expect these to last for at least 20 years so this will be my last pair.

I had never purchased from Binoculars.com and rolled the dice and said what the heck. This was probably the best decision I've made in a long time. I have zero tolerance for lousy customer service that has become the norm in this nation. The younger generation that is becoming the workforce is leaving much to be desired. I placed my order on a weekend and had a confirmation right away. They shipped my products that Mon. and provided a real easy and simple tracking method. I would absolutely buy from this company again and I recommend them to everyone I talk to. I rated the binoculars as 5 star but I rate my purchasing experience 10 star. Buy with confidence through Binoculars.com. I don't expect the world when I purchase products but I expect simple courtesy and respect and I feel that a company should treat me like a customer. I never had to contact them because everything I could possibly need was provided. My experience with this company was wonderful and I belive yours will be too.

Like David, I have the problem of seeing black outlines, as if looking through black tubes. It can be quite difficult initially to get the viewing angles just right to make those black tubes disappear. I find I can never rest the eyecups against my eyes at all--only by holding the binos at a distance from the eyes do the black tubes diminish. This has never happened to me with other binos and I'm not sure what the cause of this problem is.

Comments about Nikon 10x42 Monarch ATB Binoculars with Dielectric Coating:

Had to learn how stabilize to avoid that annoying black shadow that occurs when your pupils aren't dead center. I had read a review indicating that choosing the Monarch 5 instead of the 3 would reduce that problem, but it is still very apparent.
Otherwise the image clarity is sharp. The focus and dioptre adjustments provide a smooth reliable movement.
These are my first pair of quality binoculars so it seemed odd to me that the cover for the eye cups is so loose that it easily falls off if not secured by the neck strap.

Comments about Nikon 10x42 Monarch ATB Binoculars with Dielectric Coating:

I've had these now for about 6 months, and like them very much. I previously had Bushnell 10x50, and wanted a 10x upgrade. I've been very pleased with the amount of light these let in, and their ability to focus even in a one-handed grip. Two minor issues: one of the attached lens caps broke off at its stem. It was not difficult to remove it and the other one while I search for replacement, but those haven't been easy to find. The second issue is the displacement of the focal point compared to where you expect it to be when you first look through the glasses. Everything seems to be higher in the field of vision than I expect it to me. Minor quibbles, though.

Received this item right on schedule. Good service. I am disappointed because these binoculars only focus on a small area of the center. The rest is out of focus, much like cheaper binoculars.
