After deer hunting with a good friend for many years and using his Jason binoculars I finally had to find a set. I'm glad Bushnell picked this advancement from Jason up and I've since retired all of my other sets of manual-focus binoculars. You can't beat these, especially if your hunting or working involves cold weather and heavy gloves/mittons.

As I live and work in the country my 10x50's will be with me all year long. Plus they are a pretty good binocular for looking at the night sky.

If folks knew about Perma-Focus there wouldn't be much demand for manual focus binoculars. I know what I'm buying for Christmas gifts next year and I'll be doing it through Binoculars.com!

I was extremely disappointed with these binoculars. They may be useful to someone who is only viewing objects at a far distance (across a lake or a field), but I found them next to useless.

The “Focus-Free” feature that is advertised on the website is actually the absence of a feature: there is no focussing mechanism whatever. Binoculars with a focussing mechanism could simply be set for far-field viewing to obtain the same results. The “autofocus” also mentioned on the website is misleading: you can focus nearer objects to some degree by using the focussing ability of your own eyes. Hardly automatic. If you’re like me and old enough to use reading glasses, you can’t focus near objects at all with these binoculars.

Comments about Bushnell 10x50mm PermaFocus Free Wide-Angle Binoculars:

The 'auto-focus' is indeed a misnomer. Permanent focus is correct.
These are used 24/7 at my facility for aviation/security; out of 5 pairs 2 have been returned for repair. Heavy, but not especially durable.
Biggest draw-back: these DO NOT WORK WELL WITH GLASSES. Advertised field of view is just not there unless you grind the eye-pieces into your eyes...not very sanitary (pink-eye)if you have multiple users.

              Customer Q & A

Q1: I was wondering if this product comes with a case?

A: It includes both a case and a strap.

Q2: Does it focus each eye individually?

A: No. PermaFocus binoculars are permanently focused to "infinity," and the focus can't be varied.

Q3: What is the advantage / disadvantage of a 12x50 vs 10x50 with permafocus? I see a big difference in field of view.

A: Yup, there's a big difference in field of view - which is going to happen with ANY binocular as the magnification increases. The more you magnify your image - the more "zoomed in" to your object you will be - and you will then be limiting the width of area you'll be seeing. 10x power is the highest power that I ever personally recommend using without a tripod. As your magnification increases - the ability to hold your binocular still (without experiencing eye fatigue) will decrease - without a tripod. Another down side to higher magnification binocular is light loss. The more you magnify - the more light will be drowned out of your binocular. So, images will appear much brighter in the 10 than in the 12 in low light situations - or unfavorable weather conditions.
