Look, at 70 bucks, you're not gonna find a better pair of binos. I compared these to a set of Steiners (albeit, w/26mm obj. lenses) and the image was better--crisp, bright, edge-to-edge, absolutely spot-on color and contrast with no fringing in daylight. The exit pupil is a hefty 5.2mm so you get none of the barrel shadowing typical with smaller exits. Eye relief is 17mm; could be better, but it's good enough. And I have the smallest pupil distance on anyone I know (yeah, freak of nature), and these bad boys close up enough for me to center the image--my roof-prism Bushnells wouldn't. You can tripod mount these as well as it has the 1/4 inch 20tpi standard thread on the front hinge. Funny, they don't mention that in their ad. You'll need a thin adapter, though, as the barrels squeeze together pretty tight. For hiking and birding you'll want these 8x (skip the 10x--too much of a good thing, and in the woods, pretty much useless anyway) since they give you more light, wider views, more eye relief, and better image. One last word: I had occasion to talk with customer service about a small glitch--there was a REAL person on the line after the third ring, he was helpful and courteous, and I got the problem staightened out with one call--that's gotta be worth somethin'.

I am returning these binoculars. I purchased as a pair of no-worry, inexpensive, semi-compact binoculars for travel/birding, but the optics are inadequate, even for the price. They *are* inexpensive, compact, light, and feel ok in the hand. I would not recommend for birding, but they might be OK for bright fast-action recreation like watching football.
The view is dim, not sharp no matter how much you play with the focus, has poor color fidelity (wood decking looks purple-grey, not redwood-color; foliage looks significantly greyer), and has clear pincushion effect (distortion at edges) and fringing /color aberration. The focus knob is not quick to focus.
If you know much about optics or are particular and visually-perceptive, don't get these binocs...you will be disappointed. Slightly more expensive models on the market are incomparably brighter, sharper, and easier to focus.

Q1: What is the eye relief number for these?
A: The eye relief is 19.5mm.
Q2: Which is easier to keep still while viewing 8x or 10x?
A: The 8x would be easiest to keep still while viewing, due to its lower magnification.
Q3: Would these be good for bird watching?
A: These would be excellent for bird watching, they are the recommended size, fully multi-coated and they have a close focus distance of 6.5ft.
Q4: What's prism type for Zhumell 8x42 short barrel binoculars?
A: They use Roof Prisms in these binoculars.
Q5: What's the difference between multi coated lenses and phase coated?
A: Multi coated optics enhance the color clarity and light transmission of what you are viewing. Phase coated optics enhance light transmission and also reduce and correct the chromatic aberration you can see around the edges of the lens.
