Great binocular, great value
I live at the edge of a conservation area and have always loved observing wildlife. I have been frustrated finding a good pair of binoculars for a decent price. These are the exception.
I live at the edge of a conservation area and have always loved observing wildlife. I have been frustrated finding a good pair of binoculars for a decent price. These are the exception.
After reading all the reviews I could find, I decided to order a pair of Zhumell 10x42 Short Barrel binoculars. I was not disappointed. The clarity is very good, they have excellent three dimensional depth of field, and being short barreled, are easy to keep steady, something of a concern with a 10X lens.
I am very fussy when it comes to chromatic aberration and have returned some binoculars because of it. I am pleased to say that CA is almost undetectable in high contrast situations. The only other optical flaw is minor glare when observing at a right angle to the sun. The glare is blue and green, and easy to ignore. Fortunately, it is limited to only a few degrees and not really a big problem.
Mechanically, they feel very solid, the eye cups adjust easily, and the focus is easy to control.
All in all, I am very happy with these binoculars and feel that they are a very good value.

I have arthritis in my hands, and found that because the focusing rings are very stiff to turn, and the rounded texture "bumps" give little traction, I am having a difficult and painful time focusing. Maybe, with use, they will loosen up? Perhaps they have to be stiff because of the waterproof feature? I think I will keep them, the price was good. But I won't enjoy using them as much as I have enjoyed binoculars that I have had in the past. The lenses and focus are very good.

I never thought I would find binoculars for bird-watching that would work so well with my prescription glasses! The clarity is amazing, and I have already seen birds in my backyard I missed before. I wish I had bought these before - they are worth every penny. I can't wait to get out into the woods!

The binocular is perfect in size and easy to adjust. Did not like the fact that it is a little on the heavy side. For the price, we are pleased with the purchase.

Comments about Zhumell 10x42 Short Barrel Waterproof Binoculars:
As soon as the Zhumell 10x42's arrived I texted my son at UT to let him know his new bino's arrived. We drew New Mexico bow/mulie tags for this fall and he needed bino's for the hunt. I took the Zhumells outside and did a direct comparison with my Nikon 7X35's. The Zhumell takes a little time to get used to. The vision adjustment in the right eye is stiff but has a great "click" movement making it extraordinarily easy to adjust even without looking (it feels like a sniper scope when you adjust them). Since I wear glasses this is important, I can adjust the bino's taking off and putting on my glasses without having to look down. The binoculars come easily to the eye, with or without eye glasses. And with a simple twist to the eye pieces, pupillary distance adjustment, positioning between eyes and bino lenses is perfect. Twist down for viewing with glasses, twist up to view without glasses. The 10x field of view is restricted compared to my 7x Nikons and this is to be expected on all binoculars as you ramp up the power. As I experimented more with the Zhumells I found the added power picked up additional details as a got used to the stiff focus adjustment. I was impressed with the light transfer through the lenses and just how quickly they came to the eye. After about an hour of playing with the Zhumells I texted my son with a highly complimentary review and that my new Zhumells would be with me in the field this fall. Sorry son, but I already spent thousands on your education.

Comments about Zhumell 10x42 Short Barrel Waterproof Binoculars:
This is an outstanding set of binoculars. When you first try them you might be disappointed, because without adjustment the picture is not clear and difficult to focus. It takes a bit of initial work to adjust especially if (like me) you don't bother to read the instructions. But once that is done these are superb and future adjustments for others are easy. Great clarity, depth and width of field. Even good for low light conditions. Better vision than larger, heavier binoculars.

Q1: How can these weigh the same or less than the 8X42 of the same brand?
A: The body of the 10x42 is the exact same build as the 8x42 binoculars. The only thing that changes between the two is 2x magnification. The increase in magnification is just a small difference in the thickness of the glass inserted as the objective lenses. The small difference in glass does not increase the weight.
Q2: Are the BaK-4 Prisms phase coated or not?
A: These prisms are fully multi-coated and not phase coated.
Q3: Are these binoculars tripod adaptable?
A: Yes, you can mount these to a tripod with the added accessory of a tripod adapter (Item#ZHUI002).
