These are a great pair of binoculars but not without a few drawbacks. The 25x magnification is awesome for slewing the sky and acclimating yourself to the distant universe above. The FOV is unmatched by anything else in the price range and you can even spot some DSO's with these behemoths. On the negative side, the heavy duty tripod is definetly "maxed out" with the weight of the binos and the result is an unsteady view with alot of jitters. Also, no matter how much I try to adjust the focus, I get kidney beaning on my views of planets. Those would be the only negatives on what otherwise is a great set of binoculars that I will use for years to come. I can see Jupiter and its 4 biggest moons pretty clearly and the Orion Nebula is easy to view. It only took a few weeks with these binos to have given me a thirst for nice dobsonian telescope to accompany the binos. I was thinking of returning them to get a credit to apply to the purchase of a Z8 dob but I can't give them up because they are just too convenient an item for quick views. I am new to astronomy and they have made it so easy to learn the skies above with the help of some skymap software. All in all, these are money well spent.

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

The binoculars arrived very fast. When I opened up the box, every thing looked OK until I opened up the very nice case the binoculars were packed in. The bottom of the inside of the case had a hole punched into the material the box was lined with which indicated they were dropped very hard. I mounted the binoculars on the very sturdy tripod and looked at a gas well about 4 miles away. I saw double images of the gas well one to the right and slightly above the other. This double image suggested to me the binoculars were out of culmination from being dropped. I also saw a lot of false red color along the edges of the viewing area. I had a difficult time focusing the eyepieces to get a sharp image. Just to be sure of my evaluation, I looked thru my pair of 10x42 Leopold binoculars at the same objects and the images were much sharper and brighter with no double images or false color. I called up and immediately received excellent help from Binoculars.com customer service with an offer to return the binoculars for exchange or refund. They paid for the shipping back. The customer service was fast and excellent. I hope to do business with Binoculars.com in the near future.

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

The Binoculars arrived in two packages. I have been unable to use the binoculars for several reasons. There were no instructions on how to set up the tripod. After using the picture on the box I eventually put the tripod together. When I picked up the tripod one of the legs fell off even though the screws were tight because it was not securely attached to the main platform from the factory. Next, the mounting pin was too short and it took 45 minutes to get it to start into the mounting base. Also, the mounting bracket on the binoculars is too loose for steady viewing. Finally, the adjustment gears on the base are so poorly made that it will only adjust in one direction. I am an experienced photographer and astronomer but this experience left me sorry I bothered trying to get this purchase to work.

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

            Hello All:

Just got these binoculars with the heavy duty tripod.

I am not a serious astronomer, but I have owned a Celestron 8 inch telescope, a 10 inch dobsonian, and now have a 5 inch cassegrain for planetary work. I must say I really like these binoculars, especially considering the adage that the best scope is the one you use the most. I was just sitting on my balcony at a Virginia Beach resort and saw a half moon rise over the sea, replete with craters and mountain ridges. I moved the binocs up to Jupiter, which resolved into a nice disc surrounded by the Jovian moons. I got up this morning at 5:30am to try to spot Comet Ison from the beach, but I think a sliver of clouds near the horizon kept me from seeing it. However, Saturn was framed nicely in the binocs -- basically just a small disc with ears. Nonetheless, there is something special about seeing with both eyes and a steady tripod -- it is very comfortable, which allows me to sink into what I am seeing. Terrestrially, I also spent time looking at freighters on the ocean horizon today, and these binocs worked well.

The only thing somewhat inconvenient is that the binoculars' straight-through design means that you have to continuously change the tripod height to get a comfortable viewing angle (i.e., diagonals are more comfortable to use). That said, you need to spend much more to get binoculars with a 90 degree diagonal, and thus I am quite happy with these.

Moreover, good show Zhumell...and I look forward to getting these out to a truly dark site!

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

The quality is much better than I expected for the price. I went with the heavy duty tripod and can't imagine going with anything lighter as these bino's are a beast. We are using them to view across the bay 4 miles and the image is crystal clear and very well defined. Unbelievable value for the money. The HD tripod is well built and exceptionally strong and easy to use. My only beef is that the front lens covers are a little cumbersome to remove and replace, which makes it less likely that the user will replace them once off - the result being dirty lenses.

                    Customer Q & A

Q1: Which long distance binoculars would you recommend for freighter watching on the great lakes?

A: The Zhumell Tachyon 25x100 Astronomy Binoculars would work very well for looking at freighters. A very large aperture binocular with stronger magnification on a very sturdy tripod will give you a clean bright image.

Q2: What is the interpupillary distance for these binoculars?

A: The interpupillary distance of the Zhumell Tachyon 25x100 Astronomy Binoculars is 76mm
