These are a great pair of binoculars but not without a few drawbacks. The 25x magnification is awesome for slewing the sky and acclimating yourself to the distant universe above. The FOV is unmatched by anything else in the price range and you can even spot some DSO's with these behemoths. On the negative side, the heavy duty tripod is definetly "maxed out" with the weight of the binos and the result is an unsteady view with alot of jitters. Also, no matter how much I try to adjust the focus, I get kidney beaning on my views of planets. Those would be the only negatives on what otherwise is a great set of binoculars that I will use for years to come. I can see Jupiter and its 4 biggest moons pretty clearly and the Orion Nebula is easy to view. It only took a few weeks with these binos to have given me a thirst for nice dobsonian telescope to accompany the binos. I was thinking of returning them to get a credit to apply to the purchase of a Z8 dob but I can't give them up because they are just too convenient an item for quick views. I am new to astronomy and they have made it so easy to learn the skies above with the help of some skymap software. All in all, these are money well spent.

I'm a first tiime buyer, and would reccomend the Binocular's, but I would stay away from the Tripod that was sold with this package. The legs are very weak for this Binocular set. The mounting bracket has a very cheap metal ring on the mounting screw. I bent it with my hands, as I applied enough presure to stop it from swinging. The adjustment knobs are very tight also, and need strong hands to use them. Maybe the Tripod is good enough for a Camera???

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

The 25x100 is optically superb for the price, and very handsomely designed. Adjustment may not be silky-smooth like very high-end instruments, but work fine and may improve with regular use.

The Zhumell ZHUL 024-1 Astronomical Tripod Upgrade is something I would highly recommend. It's a little painful to spend that extra when you have already got some gear that MIGHT work. When I unpacked the better tripod, it was INSTANTLY apparent that I had done the right thing. It's as gorgeous as the binoculars, clearly compatible with their weight, and most importantly, with the range of extension, makes it possible to stand comfortably and look at near-vertical viewing angles. Anything else would have been a major compromise.

      Fits Between Binocular and Telescope

Comments about Zhumell Tachyon 25x100mm Astronomy Binoculars with Tripod Package:

I kinda like to go leisurely star hunting with Bino's first - when I see something I would like to see in more detail, I get my 8" Black Tube SCT fitted with 82 degree Explore Scientifics and focal reducer and go to town.. But more times than not I will be kicked back in a zero gravity chair with one of two pairs of binoculars just zonin' as I ogle my way across the heavens..

      I Know.. A Real Pro' Ain't I? :o)

The downside was always that I needed something to fill the gap between binocular and telescope... Well... Hands Down .. This is it..

First night out - Mmmm kinda difficult to wrangle.. you have to adjust the tripod for every single viewing, and until you get the hang of quickly adjusting the tripod - things can be a little uncomfortable or aggravating. I got the better of the two tripods and as heavy as these binos are, I'm glad I did.

Second night out.. Wrangling the tripod - a breeze - as easy to do and as quick as moving my head - OMG.. The MOOOoooOOoon.. Normally I dislike that Huge great Honkin' Light bulb drowning out all other details and spoiling my view, but as a waxing crescent our moon was so beautiful through these bino's..

The detail using two eyes.. No Words.... No having your eyeballs uncomfortably pushed up against an eyecup either - just look up and through the binoculars mounted on the tripod - "watching" as easily as watching without binoculars. Move your head away from the sweet spot - tiny detail of bare eye viewing, move your head back to the sweet spot Heavenly Bliss!

I was also pleasantly surprised at the views of Orion (who couldn't be) and Jupiter, and also the detail these binos pulled out of star clusters. Taking advantage of the relatively Wide Field of View at very useable magnification, you get to see "the whole thing" or even "two of the whole things" next to each other in a single view :o)..

I use 82 degree ES Eyepieces with my telescope and was a little concerned about my field of view with these Binos... Don't worry You can capture the Pleiades with this thing - barely - but still - a great view. The Brightness, The Colors, and the detail you can get using these Binos are all just remarkable for the price..

If you are looking for something that fits between Binocular and Telescope.. Quit searching.. This is it... These Binos won't do it all.. But what they will do will blow you away. Considering the useable magnification, the portability, and the ease of use - you won't regret a single dime you blow on these things.

      Service and delivery comments:

Fast shipping - Fast delivery, Binos are built like a Tank - Case is a little flimsy.. Okay.. A LOT Flimsy... But don't let that discourage you from picking up a pair of these Bino's. Get the Heavier Tripod if you can - these Binos are HEAVY..

              Customer Q & A

Q1: Which long distance binoculars would you recommend for freighter watching on the great lakes?

A: The Zhumell Tachyon 25x100 Astronomy Binoculars would work very well for looking at freighters. A very large aperture binocular with stronger magnification on a very sturdy tripod will give you a clean bright image.

Q2: What is the interpupillary distance for these binoculars?

A: The interpupillary distance of the Zhumell Tachyon 25x100 Astronomy Binoculars is 76mm
