Description

Celestron 15x70 SkyMaster binocular and tripod package

Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Center Focus large-aperture astronomy binoculars offer state-of-the-art technology and phenomenal performance. Despite their "SkyMaster" name, these astronomy binoculars are nearly as exceptional for long-distance terrestrial use. SkyMaster binoculars bring star fields, Jupiter and its moons, Saturn's rings, and globular star clusters into clear view, allowing for a spectacular and unique peek at the universe.

Each SkyMaster model features high-quality BAK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics for enhanced contrast and maximum light allowance. Additionally, Celestron has designed and engineered the larger SkyMaster models to meet the special demands of extended astronomical or terrestrial viewing sessions. In dark-sky environments, even such objects as galaxies and nebulae are within reach of a Celestron SkyMaster Binocular. For added utility and convenience, the Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 binocular is water-resistant and tripod-adaptable.

Additional SkyMaster 15x70 Features:

  • Soft case included
  • Multi-coated optics for sharp, clear views
  • Large aperture perfect for low-light conditions and stargazing
  • Diopter adjustment for fine focusing
  • Minimum interpupillary distance, 60mm
  • 4-element objective lens for ultra-sharp focus across the field of view
  • No-fault lifetime warranty

this package a VERY good way to start out your star gazing experience - easy to use, setup & transport- and for a very reasonable price

although not too heavy to be hand held by an adult, these binocs need to be tripod mounted for young children- to view planets you will also need the stability of the tripod

in a dark sky, with low light pollution, you will be able to see 90- 95 Messier objects with these binocs

the tripod is functional & very light weight- it is adequate for these binocs but the plastic parts would not be considered to be made of high end "sturdy" material- tripod is quick to setup & easy to use- the turn handle used to adjust height is fragile

the quick release function is adequate as is the tripod adapter, but you might consider an Oberwerk upgrade

after my experience with this package I gave two as gifts to friends

Would have given this a 1 star, but Celestron makes good products. I was just one of the unlucky ones who got a bad set. Other reviewers have said the same: if you get a good set you will be pleased. Some have had trouble will collimation on this series. In my case, the focuser on this set was non-functional right out of the box. Turn and turn any direction and no movement at the eyepieces. This being say, Hayneedle is a quality vendor and they will work with you on returns. We worked out an exchange and they sent me a pre-paid shipping label. I hope Celestron reimburses them for the shipping--not Hayneedles fault.

Comments about Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Binocular and Tripod Package:

The binos are worth every penny. And they're not as shaky as people say they will be at 15X70. A tripod is needed regardless though due to their weight, a real shoulder burner.

On that note, buy a seperate upgraded tripod. This one that is bundled with it is useless. It's very weak and shaky. No stability whatsoever. And the plastic parts are so weak and flimsy you cant trust it to hold your binos and not break. In fact, the tripod is so shaky you cant get the Binos to focus while mounted to the tripod - way too much movement. I gave the tripod to my nephew to play with (because I would never use it) and it broke within seconds. True garbarge!

But again, the binos were a pleasant suprise.

Fix for shaking

Comments about Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Binocular and Tripod Package:

I was a bit harsh in my last review. The entire tripod is not plastic, only the top part. But, the quality matches the price. Anyway, for those wanting a solution to the shaking problem, I found that it's mostly from the Celestron Tripod Adapter that comes with the binoculars. It's plastic and flimsy. If you replace it with the Zhumell L Mount Tripod Adapter (Hayneedle Item Item #ZHUI002-1), your problems will be solved.

        Best Uses

Comments about Celestron SkyMaster 15x70 Binocular and Tripod Package:

Excellent binoculars, but Celestron should be embarrassed about the lens caps, the objective covers won't stay on, and the eye pieces cover looks like it is the wrong part, useless.

The tripod is a toy, totally unusable for astronomical viewing, constant shaking, cheap plastic. I kept the binoculars but the tripod went right in the trash.

This is a great start for a beginner like me. They're both light and easy to use. Only complaints are that the tripod is shakey and the front lens cap doesn't stay on. I haven't hung a weight from the bottom but that might help.
