The image stabilization does a great job, and Canon makes a quality product. Certainly the best binoculars I've ever owned, but for the price, it better be!

The capabilities of image stabilized binoculars certainly make them worthwhile, however, the significant weight should not be overlooked. Your arms can get tired quickly.

The provided carrying case and eyecup covers are disappointing. The caps don't stay on well, and the soft case is inadequate for the valuable cargo it carries. Additionally, the objective lenses do not come with caps and the price for Canon caps that fit is exhorbitant.

As far as the binoculars themselves, the one thing I wish they had was a separate mechanical power switch that disables the IS enable button like that found on the Nikon IS binoculars. In the soft-side pouch provided, it is too easy to turn the power on and waste five minutes worth of batteries just by picking up the case.

I am a charter captain out of boston mostly fishing for Tuna, spotting birds and fish on the surface is one of the most important tools you have, so when a freind bought me a pair of Tahiti 7 x 50 from west marine for xmas It got me thinking about magnification and I thought well if I have a higher magnification I could spot better and farther. Well after purchasing a pair of 18 x 50 I was very dissapapointed at at how badly the eye cups fit they are very uncomfortable, long use is impossible, the cheap set of Tahiti's let in much more light and the over all image is just sharper even though the magnification is not as powerful you see better just from the amount of light coming in, I do have to say that the image stabilizing is great but you just can't stand the eye cups long enough to enjoy the veiw, I don't know wher these other reveiws came from but to not have said anything about the comfort of the product or the light dispertion is crazy.

Comments about Canon 18x50mm IS Image Stabilized All-Weather Binoculars:

I use the IS to look at Jupiter and its moons, Mars and see the polar caps when Mars is at apihelion, look at animals coming across our property in Colorado, looking at birds, looking at the grand canyon or other natural wonder, and use it for spotting when i go shooting. They are heavy, but when you click on the image stablization, the view is spectacular. I fold the cups back so that i have a better view. The binoculars are very versitile. They can be used for all types of activities. Recommend that if you are going to look at one item for very long, use a tripod. They glasses can be tiring to hold for over 5 minutes.

Comments about Canon 18x50mm IS Image Stabilized All-Weather Binoculars:

These binoculars are worth the money. Any high power binocular is shaky and make it hard to focus on a small object at long distances but with one push of a button the shaking is completly gone. They can be put on a tri pod or window mount which is great for hunting. The only draw backs I can see are that the lens covers are very cheaply made and fall off, also the stabalization is electronic which requires battery power. In cold weather regualar alkaline batteries only last minutes. I put in lithium batteries and havn't had a problem since. Overall I would recomend them.

Comments about Canon 18x50mm IS Image Stabilized All-Weather Binoculars:

I bought these specifically for my planned African safari trip. Just returned and I am very happy I purchased these before leaving. Everyone in our group including the guide wanted a chance to view animals through these. It's rather hefty price and bulk is absolutely worth the clarity. The image stabilizer works great making a tripod unnecessary.

Comments about Canon 18x50mm IS Image Stabilized All-Weather Binoculars:

The bonoculers are too heavy. I need to use a tripod most of the time to keep it steady. Too much money [$]. Don't believe the hype of seeing Saturns rings. I sure can't! The stars are only a bright tiny circle nothing else. I am not amused by the recommendations others write. I should have spent my money on astronomy bonoculers for $299 intead of [$]. I would recommend these for close range of about five to ten miles. No more with any clarity. I would recommend them with no doubt but not for far viewing.

Comments about Canon 18x50mm IS Image Stabilized All-Weather Binoculars:

These binoculars are fairly large and heavy, and I'm surprised that the case doesn't have a shoulder strap or a provision to attach one, in fact, the case doesn't even have a carrying handle. As soon as I received them, I sent the case to an outdoor gear repair place to have "D" rings sewn in (for a carrying strap) and to fabricate a simple web handle. My only other criticism is that there is no provision for protection of the front lenses. These binoculars are very expensive, and, given their intended use, the front lenses might be prone to damage.

        Customer Q & A

Q1: Does this have a tripod adapter? Why is there such a big discount on this item?

A: This binocular has a spot where you can attach a tripod though you will not really need it as the binocular has image stabilization. The reason that we are able to discount is that being an online company we do not have the same retail costs as regular stores.

Q2: what is the interpupillary adjustment range on Canon 18x50 IS binoculars?

A: The interpupillary adjustment from eyepiece to eyepiece 50mm to 76mm.

        Q3: Where is it made?

A: Canon products are made in Japan.

Q4: I have the opportunity to purchase a discounted Cannon 15x50 image stabilized binocular, but would I be better to purchase the 18x50? I want to use them for astronomy.

A: For astronomy you would want to go with an 18x50 to get the extra magnification. The 3x magnification difference will allow you to broaden your field of viewable stars 3x.

Q5: What batteries does this use if any and How long do the batteries last on continuous use?

A: They take 2 AA batteries and has a continuous use lifespan of approximately 2.5hrs.
